Default Belarus elections

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4823800.stm

anyone here from Belarus? this shouldn't be happening on the border of the EU...

From my Polish-Rusyn perspective, I think it's f*&ked but not suprising and I don't think an opposition win would have changed much. What's changed since the Orange revolution in Ukraine? not much.

My possible solution?: A customs or political union akin to proposed(but aborted) Polish-Lithuanian-Rusyn Commonwealth perhaps the only way former SSRs will dig themselves out of corruption and dictatorship. One last go at a pan-Slavic state?? since Russian occupation I can't see how the region has progressed from autocratic tsars and wealthy boyars...

I'm really sceptic how outside diplomacy could change anything. Cruise missile to Lukashenko's ass might do the trick.

I know/work with a few people from that country and surrounding areas and from what I understand, the election may have been faked and Lukashenko may be a total douche, but that doesn't change the fact that a great many people, probably the majority, actually like him.

Proposed by whom? I'm Polish and I never heard of anything like this.
And remember - there will never be a common state between Russia and Poland, never (well only if Russians invade Eastern Europe). Don't even suggest that, man. And don't say that to a Balt!

I also believe that Poland, Lithuania, Latvia , Estonia and even Ukraine now don't need any "help" in terms of dictatorship. It is Russians who need help with it.
