well i think these rules are quite within the common sence boundaries, because what hurts you and those around you should be considered a sin, but i don't think God is so mean and strict, it's a very interesting subject "the religion" and there is also a thread for this images/smilies/tongue.gif

oh, and this is a nice touch

Yeah, I'm sure the bread they buy makes them feel much better about the fact that none of those people will live past the age of 35 and will spend most that time with their bodies weakened and consumed by a preventable disease.

So then. If they are deadly sins can't we just go out and kill every catholic that drives, wins the lottery, has a decent job, has a crap job, takes medication (prescribed, over the counter or illegal) or is remotely antisocial.

What the fuck is wrong with these people?

We should remove the Vatican City's 'country status' and then charge it copious amounts of money for being blasphemous, then some more for causing poverty of themselves by being blasphemous.

Yes because the Catholic Church only does charity work in countries suffering from AIDS.

There we go, I fixed them, I should be pope!, I like his car.

Also! Is the Vatican just determined to stop Scientific progress, It pisses me of so much that stem research is banned in the US and that the Vatican doesn't agree with condoms because in a book, that has little evidence to back up the book as fact says its wrong - It disgusts me

The pattern is the same everywhere, argatoga. Look at South and Central America. The Catholic church's moratorium on contraception pretty much guarantees that families spend all their money trying to feed their kids and the church still asks them for tithing in return. The cycle repeats and whole nations remain mostly in poverty.

I also find it ironic that the Catholic church is saying it's a sin to become wealthy when the Archdiocese of Chicago alone is worth more than $2 billion USD. That's just Chicago! Their charity is a token amount considering their wealth, especially for a church that prides itself on charitable works and "bettering" mankind. The Boston Archdiocese is supposedly worth over $635,000,000 USD and only has debts of about $500,000. That's a hell of a lot of money that's not feeding the homeless, building infrastructure or fighting disease. It is hypothesized that Catholic Church assets and real estate holdings in the US exceed those of Standard Oil, A.T.&T., and U.S. Steel combined. If you were to combine all the Church's assets it is probably the most powerful private financial entity in the world, surpassing all but the wealthiest governments. They have a deposit of gold with the US Federal Reserve that was reported by the United Nations World Magazine to be worth several billion dollars.

They are liars and hypocrites.

How can we ever expect to develop to the best of our abilities when we're being held back by an archaic system of beliefs? It amazes me how much control religious groups have over political issues in a country that has separation of church and state as one of its founding beliefs.

As for their new sin of polluting the environment, I'm sure all the heavy equipment used to cut down the trees and all the machinery used to turn those trees into Bibles didn't hurt the environment at all. Maybe Al Gore should go after the churches now?

So wait, one of the richest groups on the planet says it's a sin to be "obscenely wealthy"...? http://pic.phyrefile.com/2008/03/10/ugh2.gif

A local church here recently broke off from the Catholic Church because they demanded they give up their several million dollars sitting in a bank account.

I agree that discouraging contraception is idiotic, and yes the church owns a lot of valuable land, but I still maintain that most of their money goes to charity work that is worthwhile. I doubt that many of the churches were founded for future property values, in the case of Chicago the city grew, as a result land value went up.

For every Theresa or anti-contraception campaign, more money goes into worthwhile charity work. The Church can no longer force their religion on people through Catholic state governments, so they need to do good works to win people over.

Ahh, so the point of charity is PR.

Ok, as long as that's out in the open.

Essentially yes. A person should join a religion because they like what they do and believe. If it is part of the religion's faith to feed people, than that is another reason to join it for people who like its beliefs and approve of charity work.
