No and yes.

No - Your statement is false if we're talking about EU. With the current legislation, industrial emissions have been reduced to an astonishingly low level. I believe Germany is the extreme to support my claims - your road transport is second to none in the world and as such is quite brutal to the environment.

Yes - USA, China, India, Australia, Russia ... are to blame. The ammount of pollution they produce makes EU look like a rain forest.

And since we're talking about hybrids ... They're rubbish in every technical and environmental aspect. BUT, they're making people aware of the problem. I hate the Prius, but it's a first step towards greener techology (and two in the opposite) in the past 100 years. I just hope we jump to the second phase soon enough. Otherwise, I've got no idea where are we going to store old batteries from that junk.

i do think we should do stuff to preserve nature, like keep the rainforest and stuff

but i think the shit about our climat heating up is so bullshit. it's been varying since the start of time, and nature will be able to cope with the small changes that there actually are

the only real problem i see, is the massive quantity of people, we're with way to much

The thing that gets me, is the amount of people that jumped up and down when George W said he wanted to get man onto Mars. Hell, we've explored pretty much everything there is to explore down here, it's about time to start thinking vertically.

With the way we're all breedin' we'll need somwhere to put us all in the next 1000 years or so...

I don't think we will kill the planet (unless we go all the way down the scale of stupidity and start a nuclear war), I think it will kill our civilization before we damage the environment to a point were it can't recover. And from that to extintion there's just a short step, but the Earth will continue without us, you can count on that images/smilies/smile.gif

What I do believe and in this I agree with Jezza (and several other fellow members, it seems images/smilies/thumbsup.gif ), is that if technology has created this mess, technology (or engineering, as he puts it) is the only thing we can count on to clean it. Of course we must continue searching for new sources of energy, for new technologies, but what most "fucking idiots" don't seem to understand is that those new wonderful advances won't appear out of thin air. They will have to be researched and developed using contemporary technologies, be it fossil fuels, nuclear fission or whatever.

Certainly I do agree that it's about time we stop fucking around and start a serious program of space exploration. It's sad that the last time a man walked on the Moon's surface was 30 years ago. By now I should be able to take a vacation on the Moon, for God's sake.

You're right, when you think about it, 200 years ago, Australia was the equivalent of what space is now. I'm settled quite nicely here now thanks. There hasn't really been any proper exploration since then other than a few rockets to the moon in the '60s. It's a long break.

The main contributer to greenhouse gases is no longer the automobile, it is house heating systems! images/smilies/ohmy.gif

As for the Earth heating up, thats a personal's preference, there is evidence supporting both sides, neither is right as of now, so we have to let things progress and see whats happens.

But humans as a whole are using too many resources too quickly, we are running out of oil, trees, the rainforest, clean water, etc etc too quickly. One day we are just going to run out, then what are we going to do?

China will most likely be the nation that produces the most pollutants soon, they are going through their own industrial revolution, and they are a HUGE country, so they are going to put out a lot of pollution unless the Chinese government does something.
