Default Fox News sucks at Photoshop

I watch Fox news now and then, and I always notice how when they discuss someone negatively, they use the worst possible photo they can find.

Recently, they were complaining about this piece in the NYT...so they put up 2 pics of the editors...after photoshopping them.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200807020002?f=h_top

I'm not sure what's more disgusting. The fact that they do stupid stuff like this, or that they suck at it.

Also, since I'm not a legal expert, I'm asking: can the two NY Times reporters sue for libel in this case? I'd imagine they wouldn't want to take this lying down, I know I sure wouldn't.

I think it would be possible...

read this on another article

Quote:
Neither Steinberg nor Reddicliffe were reachable for comment Wednesday. But Times Culture Editor Sam Sifton called the Fox photo work "disgusting," and the criticism of the paper's reporting "a specious and meritless claim."

"It wasn't a hit piece," Sifton told E&P. "It was straight news. This was a hit piece by Fox News. It is beneath comment." Asked if the paper planned to respond to Fox's actions, he said no: "It is fighting with a pig, everyone gets dirty and the pig likes it."

From someone outside America Fox News really sounds like it SHOULD be aired on Comedy Central.

If you watch Fox News and convince yourself its satire its actually quite funny. Until you realise its not, then its just scary!

The biggest oxymoron strikes again.

And speaking of photo manipulation, watch this segment of NOVA scienceNOW (bottom left): http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/sciencenow/0301/03.html

Guys, Fox and Friends is not a serious segment on Fox News. They use clips from that show all the time on The Soup.

Whatever. I can't believe the people on digg don't even understand this simple concept either. I don't watch Fox News, but how is this different from The Daily Show or other satire programs? Fox and Friends is not the normal programming for Fox News, it is not supposed to be serious journalism. Same goes for the Daily Show or Colbert Report (sadly people believe what they say too).

facepalm.jpg

I'm also tired of these self-important moveon.org/crooks&liars.com bullshit liberal propaganda machines.

Apparently a faction of leftward leaning individuals don't seem to understand that the concept of satire exists in the minds of conservatives. The group seems to overlap those who believe that all who work for News Corp. are as rightward leaning as Bill O'Reilly and that Alan Colmes is just an actor (usually not even knowing he has a radio show).

The thing about the Daily Show (or the Colbert Report) is that they're funny. And are pretty hard to mistake for a real news programme.

On the other hand, here's the transcript in question :

Quote:
DOOCY: And before we go today, something's been bugging me. A couple of days --

KILMEADE: Well, go back outside.

DOOCY: We will. A couple of days ago, when most newspapers in America were doing these positive stories about how Fox News Channel, once again, number one --

KILMEADE: Like the LA Times.

DOOCY: -- for many, many years. There was a hit piece by somebody in The New York Times. The writer was a fellow by the name of Jacques Steinberg, and he's been doing a bunch of attack stories on Fox News Channel. Well, there's some backstory to it, and that is this: His boss, the guy who assigned him to this, is a fellow by the name of Steven Reddicliffe, and Mr. Reddicliffe actually used to work for this company. He worked -- I think he was the editor in charge of TV Guide until circulation went down under his tenure --

KILMEADE: Right.

DOOCY: -- something like, 40 percent. So, he got fired, and according to Radar Online, this guy has had an ax to grind.

KILMEADE: Yeah, he does, because, I think, Steve, according to reports -- according to Radar and another online magazine -- he was making close to a million dollars here, and now with his new job --

DOOCY: Yeah.

KILMEADE: -- he's making significantly less. How about a tenth of that?

DOOCY: So, anyway, Radar says he's had an ax to grind, and that's why he sends his attack dog Jacques Steinberg out -- that fellow right there, the writer for The New York Times -- to do these hit pieces. So, he essentially is his attack dog. His -- his poodle, if you will.
Sounds like they're just bitter that the NYT wasn't licking Fox's balls over this 'Fox News is #1' thing, and it sounds like it could come up in Fox News's "news", easily enough.

Also, buh?

I just looked at the sites you mentioned. MoveOn appears to be a left-leaning news site, no different from a host of others online. Crooks and Liars, well, I wasn't sure as the site's design is rather ugly but I guess it's an aggretator for blog posts, possibly left-leaning since you don't like it. Well, what's the difference between them and all the right-leaning websites, newspages and so on online? It's OK for Fox News to exist but not for the left to have a mouthpiece?

Also, boo you for using 'liberal' as an insult. Seeing as the word means "A political ideology that seeks to maximize individual liberties", I guess you hate civil liberties, which in today's US makes you Anti-American. And therefore a terrorist or French.

Then, please, point out the satire so that we 'leftward leaning bullshit liberal propaganda machines' can enjoy it, too.

Also, as evidence that right-wingers don't understand satire, I point you towards "The 1/2 Hour News Show", which was on Fox. It was meant to be 'Fox's answer to the Daily Show' but fell flat. Badly.
