Yeah I remember, back then on the eastern front... oh hang on I wasn't even born yet. Neither where my parents. And my grandparents where little more than children and they didn't particularly enjoy that war. Most of the people who caused or actively took part in WWII are dead by now and not that much is coming from them anymore. Or should I start to think "This, coming from the people who nuked two entire cities after the enemy was already defeated" every time I read a comment posted by an American? Didn't think so... (and I won't start to, anyway. We [as in anybody younger than ~80] are not responsible for what happened +60 years ago)

Anyway, my take on gun control (for Germany) would be:
- take away all the privately owned weapons. The only people who really need weapons for their job are (professional) hunters.
- everyone who needs a weapon, e.g. Policemen, Private Security, those who like to go to a shooting range (and whoever I forgot) have to store their weapons at the place they intend to use/carry them. Meaning policemen leave their weapon at the police station (probably already have to) and people who privately own weapons have to leave them at the shooting range. Job done. Since the black market for weapons isn't really big around here (at least I don't know anyone who could possibly know someone who could know someone who could sell me anything even remotely looking like a pistol) and many amok runs* where committed with legally owned weapons, I think this would reduce such crimes drastically. The situation would of course be very different if it was easy to illegally obtain weapons...
Anybody see a flaw in that plan?

*amok runs with guns, obviously. not counting the ones committed with bladed weapons. Although the media doesn't get all crazy about these, probably because they can't be blamed on video games... or paintball.


But that's all just my personal opinion and I respect anybody legally owning weapons under their local laws and wouldn't try to make them give up their rights.
