Does your town use the CHP? Some unincorporated areas use the CHP as their law enforcement.

They make use of CHP, Oakland, El Cerrito and other departments, but Richmond is incorporated with it's own department, although it seems to exist in name only.

Nothing wrong with police here, they're nice and friendly when i've had to deal with them.

Only time I've been pulled over is when the police wanted to check my car for mods (we have some homosexual power to weight restrictions)

never had any "run ins" with the law with the exception of the occasional speeding ticket. each time the state trooper was very polite and cordial as was I.

You can get along here with the Cops quite good. If the Police pulls you over, it´s mostly a nice chat while the second one checks your Papers and Car and a farewell at the End. But if you´re trying to mess with them, you´re in Trouble. It´s all nice talk up until you get yourself into trouble, then you will certainly get hurt.
And on big Events (Soccer for example) you see them in their green One-Piece Suits, and then you know you´d better get out of the Way if they start moving towards you.

Being a Motorist, your real worry isn´t the Police, it´s the local traffic Wardens. A real Plague here. They are never to be joked or argued with.

Nice peice on that subject:

My local law enforcement is summed up.
Man arrested for obscene gesture at police officer. There are murderers and gangs controlling the streets and this is what my local police are doing.

lol, I got pulled over again the other day. I was driving through a road works zone (speed limit 40km/h) at 40km/h and I was getting overtaken by heaps of stuff. Police pulled me over gave me a spiel about how they appreciated safe young drivers (all newly licensed drivers have to display a special P plate for the first 3 years of driving)

I have to say the view of police depends on your socioeconomic background. Your attitude really dictates your situation when dealing with police. I firmly believe that no one likes tickets, getting them or giving them. If you are pulled over for a traffic violation and you say "i wasnt doing nothin" your going to get a scrutinizing. Yet if your honest and have always been brought up to treat other with respect, you will just get a verbal warning. I ran a red light and was dealt with care and a joke.

I grew up in a middle class suburb, were now lowes, home depot, target, and walmart are built. Walmart brought out lots of people that were of a lower class that brought some crime elements with them. The police there are stressed with influx of crime and have become more suspicious. I have moved to an upper middle class to upper class suburb and have seen a tremendous difference. The police smile and wave to people and let them make turns first waving them on. The better the location the better the service. Three words location, location, location.

Sounds to me like a two-class system. Those who got money and belonged to the rich, are "first class citizin" and those who haven't got any money and belonged to the poor people (even if they're just have to live there) are "second class citizins". Thats bad.
You know the roman Woman "Lady Justice". Her eyes are covered, so she can't see anything to speak law the right way. Same rights = same police for everyone.

countvlad has a post count of 7 and already a title? Buddy, what moderator did you piss off? Most people make it to at least 20 posts before getting branded with a title.

Oh, and if you are in the US I am pretty damn certain that making an obscene gesture at a cop is protected speech.

Cops in Korea crack me up!! They literally do nothing at all when it comes to traffic enforcement. I have seen cops drive right by accident scenes here! The custom is for parties to settle privately, on the spot, so the police do not even bother to stop unless they are flagged down by someone.

The only time you see them doing any real enforcement is at DUI checkpoints... which are all over the place. Speeding, red lights, traffic signs, barricades and all otehr traffic control measure are simply suggestions.

I've been to Ontario many times, and I'd have to say that the police there were quite friendly to me, I never had any problems with them, If I ever needed directions they'd tell me, with no fuss and a "good day to you" And even so, if the police are disrespect ful towards you, that doesn't give you the right to be that way back to them, because then you're just asking for trouble.

Vancouver police are the same.... respectable, you get the occational offecer with a problem, but most are good guys.
