I read something about how she sold the jet (on eBay?) purchased by the previous governor in favor of travelling by commercial airline. Criticising that it was a waste of money as well.

This article also mentioned that she faced a probe in regards to trying to get her brother in law fired from the State troopers...not sure what that was really about. But at a glace, her record does seem to be pretty solid in terms of working for the people....I may eat those words later as they are based on a just a few articles i've read so far.

I was going to say I'd never heard of her, but I have, because of that. Good on her.

I've no idea if this is a good or bad choice (I'm out of the loop).

If she becomes VP, does she stay on as Governor of Alaska?

Apparently the brother in law was a wife beater and she tried to get him thrown out by using the power of her office. Can't say I blame her.

Thanks for filling me in.

Last comment on this for a while for me, I hope she destroys Biden in the debates.

I've said it before, i don't like Obama or McCain. However, I had Obama slightly ahead of McCain (in terms of who I'd rather see in office)...when Obama picked Biden, it dropped for me....and now that McCain has picked Palin, he kinda jumped up. It's risky, and I like it (even though I can't stand McCain).

Again...don't know much about her, so my opinion might change after the convention.

First few words from the link above that really stood out for me:

From wikipedia (it's scary how much they know on there):

Quote:
On April 18, 2008, Palin gave birth to her second son, Trig Paxson Van Palin, who has Down syndrome. She returned to the office three days after giving birth. Palin refused to let the results of prenatal genetic testing change her decision to have the baby. "I'm looking at him right now, and I see perfection," Palin said. "Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep thinking, in our world, what is normal and what is perfect?"

Details of Palin's personal life have contributed to her political image. She hunts, eats moose hamburger, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane. Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association. She admits that she used marijuana when it was legal in Alaska, but says that she did not like it.

Damn, she should be president instead.

Oh, and I'd tap that. /obligatory

Quote:
On July 11, 2008, Palin dismissed Walter Monegan as Commissioner of Public Safety and instead offered him a position as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, which he subsequently turned down. Monegan alleged shortly after his dismissal that it may have been partly due to his reluctance to fire an Alaska State Trooper, Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a divorce and child custody battle with Palin's sister, Molly McCann. In 2006, before Palin was governor, Wooten was briefly suspended for ten days for threatening to kill McCann's (and Palin's) father, tasering his 11-year-old stepson (at the stepson's request), and violating game laws. After a union protest, the suspension was reduced to five days.

Palin asserted that her dismissal of Monegan was unrelated to the fact that he had not fired Wooten, and asserts that Monegan was instead dismissed for not adequately filling state trooper vacancies, and because he "did not turn out to be a team player on budgeting issues." Palin acknowledged that a member of her administration, Frank Bailey, did contact the Department of Public Safety regarding Wooten, but both Palin and Bailey say that happened without her knowledge and was unrelated to her dismissal of Monegan. Bailey was put on leave for two months for acting outside the scope of his authority as the Director of Boards and Commissions. Commissioner Monegan received no severance pay, though at the same time another dismissed Commissioner, Charles Kopp (who served only 11 days) received $10,000.

In response to Palin's statement that she had nothing to hide, in August 2008 the Alaska Legislature hired Steve Branchflower to investigate Palin and her staff for possible abuse of power surrounding the dismissal, though lawmakers acknowledge that "Monegan and other commissioners serve at will, meaning they can be fired by Palin at any time." The investigation is being overseen by Democratic State Senator Hollis French, who says that the Palin administration has been cooperating and thus subpoenas are unnecessary. The Palin administration itself was the first to release an audiotape of Bailey making inquiries about the status of the Wooten investigation.

Quite a smart pick if you ask me, she's a woman who will grab a lot of those "I am woman, hear me roar" types that were pro-Hillary, quite a few of them are upset with Obama this can do nothing but at least get them interested. She is pro-life so that might hurt with some, but there are SO many soccer moms out there that are pro-woman more than pro-choice. I can hear Fox News in the background and they are covering it, they brought up a good point. Her biggest "downside" is she is pretty inexperienced, but that might work out as a positive. If Obama tries to bring it up it would be the pot calling the kettle black, if inexperienced is something a voter takes very seriously don't you think those voters would take it as a con against obama more than McCain? After all Obama's inexperience is running for the president, not the vice-president.

Hell I would mark you down for that misspelling. images/smilies/tongue.gif Damn French can't spell worth a damn. Though I do give credit to the English for using the proper spelling of "centre", one of the few Latin words which managed to not be corrupted by the Gauls.

Language rants aside, I like her judging from the very brief summery in the article. If she ends up being a raving Neo-Con that will change, but the whole private plane matter makes her look like a Conservative instead of a tax raising, big government NeoCon/Liberal.
