Default Mississippi - Stop serving obese people

http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...der_obese.html

A bill has been proposed to prohibit some restaurants from serving obese people.

I'm sure it will never pass though.

Right, because restaurants are the only place to get food. images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

You don't need the government to loose weight. Just eat less and exercise, it isn't complicated.

This won't help at all. Denying food from an obese person is similar to denying a smoker his cigarette, he just gets angry.

I heard this had something to do with an Asian restaurant kicking a couple fat people out for abusing the "All You Can Eat Buffet".

I haven't read the story, but I'm pretty sure that had more to do with the restaurant owner losing money than him caring about his customers' weight. It's one thing for a private entity to do this, but quite another for the government to say, "You're fat, so you're not allowed in some restaurants".

If you decide for yourself to avoid certain restaurants because you're overweight, fine. But, the government has no business dictating this for you.

So restaurant owners will now be asked to walk up to the client and ask what's your weight, then calculate his BMI? Or do they expect the restaurant to fit electronic weighing scales under their "Welcome" mat?

It's not quite like refusing drink to a drunk..... cause at least later the drunk won't remember you and refused to serve him.

Exactly.
If you can't fit into the bucket seats in a Pontiac Firebird, you ought to be grateful the thin people have allowed you to live among us.

actually , if our medical expenses are considered the government's problem (if the person is uninsured or on medicaid etc.) , and obesity/overeating is the greatest cause of medical expenses , then the government is just trying to exert some control over how expensive it's problem becomes .
in other words , if someone can't stop stuffing their face and everyone is going to pay for the hospital bills , why shouldn't we say "whoa there . that's enough" .
you know ?

Why not just say..... "Let me put us out our misery and shoot you. You're costing me too much"

Start down one path, it leads to a more frightening one further down the road and especially where government is involved. What is the punishment for somebody that has the inability to stop eating or worse, have the wrong gene or bone structure images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

^ Private businesses discriminate all the time, otherwise anyone could just walk in and get a job. In a business sense, they could deny someone food if they take more than their share, or look at a person and think "they'll eat too much" and not let them in.

Not that I think that's right.. but sometimes they do.

I meant this law, I don't see how it's legal. As far as I can see it's no different than law enforcing segregation.

I suppose if they could prove one to be addicted to food, then the restaurant could be fueling their addiction. Regulate food the same way they do prescription drugs..

Then they just order food online, from Canada.

not that i think such a law is very practical or enforceable in a free society , but what i was trying to illustrate was that to the extent to which people are dependent on an entity , that entity owns them . thus the more that people are dependent on this entity , the more this entity can regulate their lives as a condition of dependence .
the people own the government and that balances the scales . this is where we find out who is more dependent , the people or the government . or for that matter which people are dependent .

We're all addicted to food........ otherwise we die. How then do you determine the level of addiction, two meals a day, three meals a day, four..... and what size.
