I thought that was the case. I still don't think there was a need to taser him, especially not with 4-5 cops restraining him.

The only thing they should have done was say "get to the point" if you watch the vid you can hear Kerry wanting him to do just that. Tazering him was extreme.

No, what makes America great is that you're so much fatter on average than the French. Not so much great as large.

(Oh, I'm not serious.)

Okay, I watched the entire video. He should never have asked the skulls & bones question, that's what did him in. But seriously, there really wasn't any need to taser him....one would assume you'd only need to do that if the person was actually a threat.

I'm sorry but you can clearly hear the Po-lice asking him several times to comply and he doesn't, it's his own fault for trying to be a hero.

If you are of the opinion that you shouldn't be arrested or detained, then why comply?

I agree 100%. They had him on the ground with several large officers on top of him. He wasn't going anywhere and I really don't see how he was any threat to anybody. It sickens me when police use extreme force just to make their jobs easier or to prove a point. images/smilies/mad.gif

I love how some people think this is the norm in America or something.

Our generation is going to grow up with no respect for authoritah. At this rate, I sure hope so.

It's stereotyping, we're all guilty of it.

This is something I wrote in "The Stig got arrested." thread. I think most of it still stands.

Quote:
Well, I'm new to the forum, and here is what I see and think about what I have read in this thread thus far.

I'm not going to pick out a specific issue that were brought up in any length, but I will touch base on some of the things I have seen.

The Stig getting arrested: He was more then likely on government/military property. Stupid, yes, but it is what it is.

President Bush: Not all of us elected him. As a matter of fact, half the country did not. And at this point, some of those who did are now sorry about the choice that they made. Unfortunately, he was probably the lesser of the two evils that we had to choose from. (That part is just my opinion)

The US Government: Yes, I will be the first to admit that it's got issues. But, I don't know of one countries government that doesn't. No, I can't name anything specific, but you would have to be a fool to think everything is perfect in your own government. Any superpowers probloms will end up on the world stage. Thus, for more people to examine and have an opinion.

Living in the US and it's people: I find it funny how some endulge in the generalization of a countries people. There seems to be this view that all Americans are fat, uneducated, and have nothing to do but sit around, shoot guns, and watch Nascar. This, is in fact, false. While that does exist here, it's certainly not the populous as a whole. I certainly don't belive that all of the UK is sitting around eating fish and chips while going for a pint of bitter. Nothing wrong with any of that, it's just what one might call culture. Stereotypes are nasty things. Unless you have delt with what you're talking about first hand, don't reinforce them. Every country has them.

Jaywalking: Oh my God, please don't use this example of how people think in the US. You have to understand 2 things about that. Many people are interviewed, but very few are used and editing is a wonderful thing when it comes to entertainment. Just think about that.

US Education: Yes, it's a broken system. But, thankfully, most of us turn out ok, somehow.....

Jeremy Clarkson: I can't get enough of him. I really do like that man. Sure, he bashes us Americans. But, then again, I look at the source. He likes to talk big, it's just the way he is. He bashes ALMOST anything not British. Do I fault him for that? Not at all, he loves his country, more power to him. I would actually love to meet him.

Me, personally: I work at an airport. I meet many international travelers. I can honestly say that 99% of those that I deal with are extremly nice and actually fun to talk to. And when I ask how their trip went, again, 99% say they really enjoyed their time here and would want to come back. I would love to see Europe sometime. Mainly England and Germany. I also want to see Australia someday.

So, to all of the other international readers of this forum, I say to you this. Not all,or even most, Americans are they way you may think we are. Nor do we all believe all the things we are told about you guys.

I hope to make some good car friends on here. Not just others from the states, but anyone in the world.

It's no surprise this happened in Florida either, cops/tasers has been a bit of an issue here. I posted a thread a while ago (I think) about children being tasered here.

Regardless of situations like this, I still believe that cops carrying tasers is still a positive.

So...you'd rather the cops beat him up rather than give him a quick shock? Would you rather the cops have sent the kid to the hospital, than to a cell to cool his heels for a night?

This was being broadcast on all the local channels here, and after some youtube hunting, what I got out of it was this:

1) Kid asks Kerry a question.
2) Kid doesn't shut up and keeps going on.
3) Kerry asks the kid to get to the point.
4) Kid doesn't and keeps rambling off.
5) They shut the mic off on him, he starts shouting and being an idiot.
6) Campus police come to escort him off.
7) Campus police pull him off, he resists, etc. etc.

Events like this usually have set rules as far as asking questions (more about time than anything else). The kid exceeded the time, started to break off into a rant, he was not being arrested or detained when the campus security first got there, merely escorted off. He resisted, and became physical with the officers, at which point things degraded the way they did. As for tazing the kid when he was on the ground, iirc, the cops told him something like 20 times to get up, before warning him another 10 times that if he didn't they would tazer him. Guess what the smart man on the floor did...

Some of the talk coming about from this seems to point to the kid having set this up. One of the cameras in the crowd was his girl friend or something like that, and he's said to have been joking with the cops once he was out of the camera eye and in the back of their cars.

To summerize; kid being an attention whore got tazered for not following police instruction after being told to leave the building. Was tazering too much? Maybe, but it always seems that way. Considering the alternative, maybe we should feel glad the cops didn't just beat him to a pulp.

Oh they did something alright. They applauded the campus police for removing the kid.

Yeah, exactly, i'd rather they just beat the hell out of him images/smilies/rolleyes.gif. I've never been hit with a tazer but I've managed to get hit with 220v a few times. Imagining that pain prolonged; I'd rather get punched in the head. Multiple times.

The cops took the easy way out. The guy wouldn't shut up or leave, but that does not warrant tazering, especially not when there's what, 5-6 cops there? Hold him down, cuff him, pick him up and take him out the door and into a squad car. Let him cool in the cop car or in a jail cell. Problem solved; no ass kicking, no tazer. If it had been just one or two cops I could see the use of a tazer, but not with that many.
