Screw 'em. If they dont show up for work, fire their ass. Will it mean a longer wait at Burger King? Sure. But this type of walkout only hurts people, it doesnt help.

And yea, Mencia was right - if you are going to protest for reform, dont parade around with MEXICAN FLAGS. Dumbasses.

Yeah I have to agree, I have no sympathy for these people. I'm tired of paying for their kids to attend schools, and to get health care. If they want to be legal citizens that's fine, but you damn well sure better be paying taxes the second you cross the border.

I'd be fine with letting them become citizens, as long as they back pay taxes from the time they entered the country, and started leeching off the services that tax payers, have to pay for.

I don't see how the May 1st walkout will help their cause, it's not the same as the civil rights movement of the 1960s. So what if it takes longer to get a burger, it's not going to change my mind about whether my tax money should go to support people who entered this country illegally, and have taken advantage of the public services without paying for them. I hate taxes but I hate the people that take advantage of services without contributing even more.

I can't see how these people can try and justify thier position? Voting rights? Are you fucking kidding me?! What makes these people who broke the law to get here have the right to leapfrog the thousands of people trying to get into the country legally? And if you're so fucking proud and happy with mexico, GO BACK! It sounds odd, but Mencia can spit some wizdom, they left because mexico sucks, admit it! We did! USA > Mexico and that's why they're here, get over it. Knowing where you come from is one thing, but this crap is quite another.

Some hispanic girls at my work said they're not coming to work on Monday, which sucks because we'll be short-handed (and Monday is a busy day at a pharmacy).

I think it's unfair for employees to boycott work to the detriment of their employer (in the case of small businesses). I'd be pissed if my staff didn't show up.

They really don't have any ground to stand on. And legal immigration is backed up for about 10 years or more (they are likely processing people that applied back in the mid-90s).......it's extremely unfair on them. I also don't think we should let people in disproportionately from one country (i.e. Mexico). Everyone should have a fair shot.

exactly.

if it were me, they may as well not come in ever again. There's no shortage of people willing to fill a job, perhaps for skilled positions, but for most jobs you can find a replacement easy.

One thing is for sure - tomorrow's commute should be a lot easier, and I wont have to worry nearly as much about being hit by an uninsured motorist...

Hmm. Maybe they should protest more often images/smilies/smile.gif

Agreed. But anyone who says all hispanics can't afford insurance is a racist.

That's true, but nobody said that here. In California, you need to have a driver's license (obviously), registration, and proof of insurance if you're ever involved in a traffic violation or accident. Illegal immigrants can't get any of those (legally). So what gtrietsc said was basically true.

Same in Virginia. I don't see anything racist about gtrietsc's comment. If the illegal immigrants are protesting, they won't likely be going to work at the same time he would normally be, therefore they aren't on the road, therefore less of a chance of an accident with an uninsured motorist. Just because people who aren't illegal immigrants are protesting as well, doesn't mean they all are uninsured.

Wasnt trying to be racist. Thats just a likelihood where I live. You get rear-ended by a Hispanic person, odds are, you are going to be paying out of your own pocket.

And I'm sure some next person believes that odds are, if you bump into a black person, he's going to rob you. Doesn't mean you're right.

Straight from the horse's mouth, though. Clearly said hispanics and not just illegal immegrants.

you sir, are a dumbass. He said nothing of the sort, he was referencing illegal immigrants, and no, they can't get insurance usually, not that they can't afford it, but you need a SSN to get insurance, and most of them don't have them unless they are stolen.

Why in the world do retarded people equate not liking illegal immigrants from mexico with being racist? MEXICAN IS NOT A FUCKING RACE YOU DOUCHEBAGS!

Perhaps the problem comes from not understanding WTF you are talking about? How many illegal mexican immigrants are there driving around in Canada? And how many are there driving around the southern and border US states? It's a fact of life down here that if you are hit by an illegal immigrant, which does indeed happen often, that they 95% of the time won't be insured, and 99% of the remaining 5 will hit and run anyway, because thier papers are fake! I know more than 10 people who have gone thru this so don't talk unless you know WTF you are saying!

Well, I was right. 25 minutes to work. Normally its like 40. They should protest more often!

In all seriousness, //M, your attitude and comments show just how little you know about where *I* live, what *my* situation is, etc. Most recent estimates put the number of uninsured vehicles in Texas at 25-30%. My father was rear-ended by an "immigrant" with no insurance, my best friend had his RX-7 totaled when he was rear-ended by another "immigrant" with no insurance.

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to draw the appropriate conclusions.
