I'm almost sure that this thing has been blown out of proportion. It's true that cases like this rarely fly in Russia, and in general American way of suing everyone for everything is widely ridiculed. Unless an act of sexual abuse happened the judge might have just thrown the case out because of lack of evidence, and the "If we had no sexual harassment we would have no children" comment was just the judge being "witty". Unless you're familiar with Russian culture these types of comments might seem out of place, but I assure you that this is completely plausible situation. Your position doesn't matter, you're allowed to be funny, rude, sarcastic, whatever. I mean, have you listened to any of Putin's speeches?

I don't deny that Russia is quite behind in terms of sex equality, but it's not that medieval

Well Russia does have a very low birthrate like someone already mention and I think it is constantly declining. In addition the death rate is higher than the birthrate so they actually have a decling population as well.

He never said it was perfectly OK. If I'm interpreting his words right (correct me if I'm not), he implied that perhaps Russian culture works better in Russia than Western culture and you're silly for not considering that.

Moreover, how can you call the bosses unprofessional? The article mentions no neglect of their work.

Personally, Russia creeps the fuck out of me too... but that doesn't mean their way of life is just "wrong".

The way women act also influences the way men act. It's not a "battle of the sexes" it's "the sexes live together".
A western mind wants everything to be neatly boxed and taxed, and made into laws, but we all know how much
human interaction never fits into neat boxes.

A Russian guy who acts like a westerner will not get any chicks. This rule more or less applies to the rest of eastern Europe. A man needs to act like a macho, not just to attract women, but to get the respect from women and co-workers. If you don't act like you're able to fuck anything that moves, you will be percieved as a weakling, a nerd, loner, loser etc.

Around 10 years ago, one psycho bitch accused me of "attempted rape". Fortunately, she didn't go to court,
or anything stupid like that... she just spread nasty rumors about me being a potential rapist. The thing is, I never touched her... she tried to seduce me, I was interested, but I didn't do anything about it, because I was
a bit of a wuss. She probably misunderstood, and thought I was rejecting her. V-tec vanity kicked in yo! and before I knew it, I was branded as a rapist.

It's a whole different mentality around here, which makes its effects on a bunch of other things, which influences a buch of other things... and there you have, a totally different culture you can't truly understand
from some half-assed report in a newspaper.

I interpreted his original statement to basically be in agreement with the ruling, so I was asking if he found such behavior to be acceptable to him personally, my use of the word acceptable was completely appropriate.

If you think a boss is being professional by intimidating his employess there is not really much else to say there. I think that being professional... ESPECIALLY in a supervisory position involves much more than just "doing your job", but maybe I am not the norm.

You have no idea what kind of stupid shit I meet when I go to a municipal office. Unless the boss does intimidate his employees, they do as they like. Great bosses intimidate their employees in subtle ways or by feeding rumours about themselves that make them look intimidating, while being nice to everyone. It's just how it works.

I think that being professional... ESPECIALLY in a supervisory position involves much more than just "doing your job", but maybe I am not the norm.

Nope, professionalism is all about doing your job while not making your workplace look bad. If that kind of thing is common practice over there, I don't see how it makes the specific workplace look bad.

It's like the long workdays in America. It's shitty but sometimes you just don't have an option.

Not exactly. They hate it when you try to bribe them so just handing him a 20 wont work. He has to bs you for a while and then you say something along the lines of "well officer, is there any way that I could pay the fine on the spot?". Chances are he will say yes, tell you how much, you pay, and go on your way
