The head of the sicilian mafia, Bernardo Provenzano, was arrested today near his hometown Corleone in Sicilia.
Bernardo Provenzano was italys most wanted man and had been on the run since 1963! He became the boss of the sicilian mafia in 1993. very good article from time magazine: http://www.time.com/time/europe/maga...689399,00.html http://gangstersinc.tripod.com/BernardoProvenzano.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4898930.stm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernardo_Provenzano

Is it true they didn't know what he looked like for all those years?
It seems like the Prodi age kicked off well

Not that I disagree with your comment, but what's the point of making such generalized, sweeping comments? Why don't you elaborate for those of us who don't know the details of the modern-day Sicilian Mafia and aren't all that interested in your personal verdict?

What the fuck kind of reply is that? I didn't ask a yes/no question... not only did you not answer my question, you proved you're illiterate.

Suffice it to say, organized crime is very problematic. Whether it's the Sicilian mafia, or any other mafia/yakuza/triad/crime syndicate

Yeah... it's hard to even comprehend such groups existing. We all see it in the Godfather and the Sopranos, but it all somehow seems totally fictional.

illiterate, lol. I love when people pull that kind of shit when they don't get thier way.
The Italian mafia is far less potent and influential today than it was 30 years ago, our law enforcement did a pretty bang up job of taking out the garbage. I don't know about elsewhere, but here the Italian mafia has lost control in many areas the once had cornered, and gone "legit" in others. This is not to say crime is lower, just different organized crime syndicates and gangs control things now. In a way, it's like the fall of the USSR, instead of a single large organization running things, you now have many smaller ones running around fighting for a piece. Quote:

I called you illiterate because you are... it was a simple factual statement. I posed a question which obviously didnt seek a yes/no answer but you said no... so I could only assume you couldn't comprehend written material.
But thanks for elaborating... |

We dont't have organized crime in Calgary, ours is more the unorganized variety. Or semi-organized, if you count the wannabe Asian gangs that keep killing each other.
