Suspected bomb found in London

Didn't detonate, which is good...and I hope there aren't any others out there that they haven't found. Seems like a very crude device, not at the level of sophistication of other devices that have caused mass destruction (According to initial reports at least).

Oh yeah, apparently the bomb was in a Merc.

It worries me that they have no idea yet who is behind this. The BBC article even mentions the Irish. The bomb itself was rather useless and I don't really understand why it was planted there in the middle of the night. No cars get parked there, so it would be removed by the morning anyway and it wouldnt hit many people on the street at night anyway. strange story...

Yeah, I think they mentioned the Irish just to placate the Muslims. But we'll see. One of the news reports I was listening too was mentioning something about gay nightclubs, I missed the whole conversation though.

HuH? I just read the article and see nothing about the Irish. Maybe the BBC just changed the article (happens with something that is breaking news).
The only interesting bit is "incident bore all the "hallmarks" of a failed suicide bomb attempt". But inside of a Merc? Wont the bomb just go off on the inside killing just the driver (Ok, i will stop with the VW ad joke)

At least I doubt it's the IRA. Well, it might be a fraction of the IRA, total amateurs, of course, but I won't believe for one moment it has anything to do with the 'proper' part of IRA. That would be stupid, and unlikely, not least cause the IRA knows how to make a bomb.

I'd rather bet on someone who's very tired of the society, and has read the anarchist's cook book.

Sadly, that might be a part time muslim who think's he's being discrimminated on by some people.

Well, if we're making utter guesses...

It's an environMENTAList, who thoguht using a car to bomb people would be deliciously ironic. The fuel will turn out to be bioethanol and the seat covers will be hemp.

The person in question will read the Guardian, and did this to raise awareness of global warming.

Maybe. Still looks like amateurs. The people who train professional islamic terrorists were either trained by people who got their training from CIA or KGB/GRU. Those people know how to make effective bombs. These people don't seem to know much about it.

It's scary, especially when you consider what happened 2 years ago in the bus/tubes. It seems to be of done so easily. 60l of petrol and a shitload of nails in a crowed area would create sheer terror, these bombs are used in Iraq and the Middle east and usually kill or seriously maim people.

Warning message for Brown? nah he had that already with the anti-war protesters outside Westminster.

Blaming this on Iraq is such a cop out. The Muslim community in Europe and the UK especially are feeling persecuted. Thus you see ghettos of Muslims and angry youth that have lived in the west their whole life that feel disproportionately targeted.

Yet in in the US that is supposed as the most racist nation the Muslim population is defused. You find second generation immigrants that despite their faith support their secular government.

The London police got lucky on this one. A cop saw the car smoking then a full search started.

Look i know it sounds odd but the problem is that the UK despite having more ability with it's encompassing laws are cursed by them. The US constantly has a debate of how far to push law and civil rights. It's the fact that we have a debate that people believe its worse that what it is. Still the US have not issued large searches of entire neighborhoods.

That was a pretty weak attempt at ironic humor on my part. I've got absolutely nothing against Muslims. I've talked to many of them and they're always great people. What I meant in my earlier comment was that its ridiculous that we're spending billions of dollars on our little war on terror, yet its local law enforcement that seems to be doing the real dirty work and having real, tangible results.

What you are saying there is very true.

Yes, you will find islamic terrorists, but if you look at Palestinian suicide bombers in Israel in the 80s and early 90s, they didn't blow them self up in a successfull (err, which means they normally take out two women, one child, one police officer and the three European peace activists) action because of religion, but because of very personal reasons.

I'm not starting a hey-it's-time-to-bash-Israel argument, but it's a fact that Israel keeps political prisoners, family of suspected terrorists and so on, they did demolish the houses of the families of people blowing themselves up in Israel, they did more or less accidentally kill innocent civilians. What do you gain from that?

Well, the brother of the suicide bomber who's in sorrow, suddenly finds a need to blow some jews up in the air. And he does. It's an evil spiral, to say the least.

Actually, the really big islamic fundamentalist actions were on behalf of Hamas, which was funded through different channels by Mossad with the purpose of getting rid of the PLO. Right'o, chaps.

The problem is, from what I've gathered from research and so on, that normal chaps who's not more religious than me, and I believe in no God, end up 'finding God' in a Mosque run by a crazy fundamentalist, tired of being viewed by parts of their own society, a society they're as much part of as ethnic Brits, and finds the idea of blowing up some infidels to be a good one.

I wasnt expecting an attack on Glasgow airport, mind you it is certainly showing that terrorist will attack anywhere and not just city centres.

Edinburgh airport isn't letting any cars in the airport atm and Glasgow's flights are being diverted to Preswick. Mr Brown has certainly having an eventful first week as PM.
