The EU, good or bad thing?

I'm not intending to start an EU bashing thread, but I'd thing it'd be very interesting to hear what you folks have to say about what you think the EU is good at and is bad at

I think the EU is a good thing, because:

- It keeps peace in Europe and encourages friendly relations between nations.
- It shows other world countries that peace can work and they have a role model.
- It allows citizens of member countries to move from member state to member state easily.
- Tony Blair has more friends

Bad things I can think of:

- Giant trading block. Means non-Member states lose out.
- Too much "red tape" sometimes.
- Alot of different opinions, sometimes nothing ever gets done, but atleast more than the UN

EU makes lot of sense from trading point of view. Just think how mad it was before when every single product had to meet individual norms of every single country.

Now you can sell same product from Lapland to Mediterranean.

For masses, I think same currency and free movement are biggest things.

It's alright but I don't think it will become what some people think it will become, a country in itself. If that happened Europe would loose something a a whole but I am sure many people don't want that.
