Rep Power: 0 ![]() | War actions and miserable failure of rebuild/money management have turned clock back in time. In these overall difficult conditions, larger piaces usually disintegrate. Everybody takes care of themself, every religious faction, every province, every town, every town area and so on. Afganistan had long lasting chaos until Taleban came and maintained order. There is big danger that Iraq ends up same, some radicals will take over. Also Iraq is now becoming new number one sanctuary of different terrorist organizations. It is very difficult to know which groups will stop fighting when USA/UK leave. Fact is that military victory is impossible, so troops should leave soon as Iraqs new military is able to survive, not control country but survive. Air support has to remain there for tens of years. But of course decisions are done by "what looks best" and not what needs to be done. Just like certain American companies and republican politics who stole Iraqs rebuild money are not being sued in large scale because it would look bad in local media. |

Rep Power: 28 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Catch-22. As long as foreign troops are on the ground, the insurgency will continue. And vice-versa. I heard/read somewhere that there were talks of partitioning Iraq....

| We should get the country on his feet like get a proper Iraqi Army and Police force set up then pull most our troops out leaving some to help out until the mess has died down, things may change when we get a new PM though. | |

How long should American and British troops stay in Iraq? Should an arbitrary date be set? Should they leave when soldier fatalities reach a certain amount? Which parts of the 'mess' need to be 'cleaned' up? If fixing the problem the American invasion created remains the requirements for withdrawl, don't expect the troops to be coming home within the next ten years.
