Toronto orders removal of yellow ribbons from EMS vehicles

And this job requires them to fight, kill, and die if need be. That should really be all that needs to be said.

First of all I think that is a Canadian issue and its not that big of a deal.

Well are all in this together and I believe it is quite the deal. It sends a message to the troops that does not need to be said. And on that note I suggest giving a nod to the men and woman of the German Armed Forces who are participating in the ISAF.

I don't even see why this is an issue. I don't support the troops (which I'm sure is known on the forums)...but if my house is on fire I don't give a flying fuck if the rescue team has a ribbon on their truck or not.

There is no comparison between a soldier in battle wearing a gay pride sticker and a firetruck in toronto sporting a support the troops ribbon. But let's assume the firetruck in toronto had a gay pride sticker...that would still be different, because that is a political statement whereas the ribbon is an expression of solidarity (as mentioned above, it does not translate to supporting the war). If a sticker on the truck did read "we support the war"....then I would be all for removing them.

Let me ask this. If the truck had a pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness, should it be removed?

Sorry to kinda hijack the thread but I was in the Civil Air Patrol which is our version of that same thing. That was some good fun! The squadron I was in used to visit the RCAC every once in a while, sort of like an exchange thing. Unfortunately I never got to do it. I really should get back into the whole thing.

Back to the topic: I think governments have enough on their plates already without worrying about some ribbons on vehicles. If they don't like the idea of visually supporting the soldiers then maybe they should have been more careful when deciding to send them over.

Well in relation to the government in question in this thread, Toronto city hall. They've run out of money. They now want to double the land transfer tax, basically what you pay for moving meaning $4000 more making it cost $8000 to just leave. They want vehicle licensing cost to go up $60. Garbage is now taxed if you produce more than 1 bag. To think they were paying any attention to something like removing ribbons on EMS vehicles shows their incompetence. Then again this is the same city council that couldn't take their photos the first time because of stupid arguing over where they will sit or who they stand beside. Theres so much waste in Toronto city council its appalling, I wish there was some oversight of some kind. I'm sure they'll find so much money going absolutely nowhere. I'm so glad I live just outside of Toronto.

Anywho, every Army person I know (that i've thought to ask at least) could give a shit about the ribbons. Most appreciate the gesture but just see it as good old capitalism/politics at work. You didn't see ribbons on every other car back in '00; but now there's money to be made there.

There is this thing here that we say about being a neighbour to the U.S., and that is "sleeping with and elephant."
