2006 Mazda RX-8

About time I got around to making a thread.

Was shopping for cars in the $15k range, finally time to replace my first car, although it has served me well. I was looking at the likes of new-ish Cobalts and Tiburons but was absolutely shocked when I started coming across RX-8s, and good ones at that. I instantly fell in love with this one at a local dealer, and after a while of convincing myself that it was a terrible idea and I would regret it, well, here I am.

2006 Mazda RX-8 in a bright, metallic red, with literally every option ticked off. I went from manual windows and locks to pop-up GPS screen and heated seats.

And, oh yeah, IT'S AN AUTO, GET OVER IT.

I really like it. Just gotta get rid of the dealer sticker on the back bumper. I hate when they do that.
Spend three hours peeling it off and scrubbing off the sticky part on my Audi.

Nice, but i do have a question. Don't RX-8s rev to 9000 rpm ? I see that the redline is 7500 rpm.

They gimped the auto a bit. 7500 RPM and 212 HP. But, it's cheaper and it actually gets slightly better gas mileage.

Ignoring the fact that this is the one vehicle in which an auto makes no sense what so ever it is still nice.

Irrelevant of the fact it is an Auto - that gearlever looks really retarded with that massive base and tiny movement area.

But still - nice car. They're pretty cool; I have a teacher who has one. But no-one will ever forgive you for getting a slushbox (Or you Darkshark!).

The car looks pretty good overall, I approve. Just one thing though - I think the dealer made a mistake and accidently gave you an automatic car images/smilies/tongue.gif

I still cant believe that you got an automatic RX8. Its a good car ruined

Not only did you get the wrong RX, you got the wrong color (if it's not a Vette, Ferrari or a firetruck it should not be red IMO) AND the wrong gearbox? Lotsa fail going on right there images/smilies/tongue.gif

Congrats on the car dude, hope you will have fun but judging by my own experience you are going to start hating the slushbox pretty quickly. Those things shift retardedly slow and the added parasitic loss is such a drag images/smilies/sad.gif

I made a mistake of getting an auto car myself. Later I made a bigger mistake driving the 6 spd version of my car while not being able to trade my car for it :'(

I don't get it... an automatic? Rotaries + automatics don't go together unless packing large quantities of boost.

So why did you get the auto? Just because it was cheaper or have a disability that prevents working the clutch? If the real answer is the former, just tell us the latter and post a random pic of some vet with half a leg. images/smilies/tongue.gif
