With the all new Golf VI replacing the US Rabbit this summer, I'd wait (if you can). It is LOADS better. If you have any questions about either, let me know.

Eh? I don't pay attention to VW honestly images/smilies/lol.gif

I just built my own Rabbit on their website.. holy crap that's a lot of money! Then again I did add a lot of accessories images/smilies/tongue.gif

[edit]
Why are they going to replace the Rabbit anyways? It seems like a decent little car, why not just add it to the line up? @_@

They're not. What we call the Rabbit the rest of the world gets the Golf, so the new Golf will come next year. VW decided to call the current Golf in America the Rabbit for a bit of pointless nostalgia.

I had a horrible experience with a certain VW Passat. A 2006 model I believe, with the 2.0TDI and DSG-box. After having to drive it day and night for one summer as a taxi, my faith and some degree of respect even in VW has been turned to disgust (the Scirocco withstanding). I'm not sure if I've complained about this thing before, but I'll give a brief review on this piece of automotive tragicomedy:

Let's start with the flywheel sensor on the DSG, which was broken, causing the shifts to be horribly jerky. There was a grinding noise while cornering swiftly, which was caused by VW's engine mounts, which were too weak for this type of car.
Also, the seat belt sensor was broken, which basically meant that everytime I opened my seat belt, I'd have to listen to the bong-type seat belt alarm until it shut the hell up, which was about 23 minutes of bonging. This meant that I'd rather pull the seat belt from behind the driver's seat and keep it closed, leaving me unprotected. So congrats VW, your seatbelt nanny actually makes the car less safe than a car without these annoying devices. images/smilies/lol.gif
My boss got fed up with this horrible heap of pile after 3 months and switched it for an Audi A6. Good change.

BTW, I wonder if anyone has crashed because of a seatbelt nanny? Think about it, you're already moving and the thing starts beeping. Then you start pulling the seatbelt thing and you crash into a nearby parked car.

Well, considering they start as soon as you switch the key to the "on" position...

Not every one does. The Merc B-class starts BONG:ing after a while, for example; IIRC it starts when it locks it doors at 5km/h or something.

No, it doesn't. You want to drive in and out of your garage without wearing a seatbelt, at least in good old Europe with its many garages without electric gates you want to. images/smilies/wink.gif

Ok there was something seriously off with that car, at least the seat belt sensor because mine is currently broken, has been for about 5 months, and by the time I get the radio all set up to do and get in gear it had long stopped bonging at me images/smilies/blink.gif It's never bonged at me at any other time than start up either.
From what I can tell with VW's you either get a good one or a very very very bad one. images/smilies/blink.gif

The MkIV Golf hasn't given any grief yet. There is a rattle coming from the Blaupunkt stereo and it's needed some bushings for its rear axle, but other than that it's been 18 months of solid cruising. It's not as economical as I would like it to be, and I'm just the slightest bit suspicious of the longevity of the autobox (being a VAG gearbox), but it's not a bad car, or badly made.

Ah, I forgot about the locks. They play up at wintertime.

Good thing I have more self control then. images/smilies/lol.gif

But seriously, I may have agreed with you... before I bought one. First hand ownership experience has a pesky habit of breaking down glass walls. In reality (you know about reality, right?) it's been a great car. I could have done a lot worse had I chosen a fanboy favorite, a badge with some car attached to it.

Of course, I didn't exactly want a PT, it just so happened that I was in a very bad situation with my old car and was able to make a lot of debt disappear by buying the PT. I'll have more of a choice when I trade it in sometime in the next 7-10 months, but I may have to forgo buying a sports car like I had wanted. The real world and real world concerns, you know.

Couldn't you afford a used WRX or Mazdaspeed 3 (not the normal mazda 3) for that price?
