You're right right about the brakes images/smilies/sad.gif Since your car is probably in better condition than mine (and you took it on a trackday images/smilies/wink.gif), how easily does it break traction on tarmac? My car might be taken to the track this summer, and I was wondering whether you can make it go sideways in a controlled manner with the 2.0i? My diff doesn't hold, my steering is slow, and my valves are tapping, so I daren't try it myself.. yet. (besides those antics are not for public roads..)

Pics of the grille fitment on the bottom of this page:

Doesn't fit perfectly :\

It doesnt have enough power to do proper controllable powerslides images/smilies/sad.gif But i managed to get it sideways anyway images/smilies/tongue.gif
Just go for the slow tight corners. Find out how fast you can go trough them then kick the clutch. Eventually you can try liftoff oversteer, but that works best if there is hilltops there. I managed to get properly sideways at 90-100 using liftoff over a hilltop images/smilies/mrgreen.gif (I have of course never tried anything like that on public roads images/smilies/rolleyes.gif images/smilies/lol.gif)

The fitment doesnt look too bad actually. I have seen worse images/smilies/biggrin.gif

You car at 0:04 in this video?:

I was just watching that video and going through your thread looking for updates at the same time, when I realized you had a FMCN plate on your car in the pic. That video was shot at Vålerbana, and you can see a black iS with a cosworth grille on images/smilies/tongue.gif

Yeah, I know I have far too much time images/smilies/smile.gif

Cool deal. Wonder if it's any relation to the 2.3?

Both use essentially a pinto block, but the the American version is quite a bit different (slightly shorter, etc.) Very few parts are interchangeable, but they have the same basic design

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Pinto_engine

Your engine is more powerful stock due to the turbo, but it's not as rev happy as the European versions, and a boosted EU ohc engine will kick it's face in images/smilies/smile.gif Your mustang & the Merkur XR4ti got essentially the same gearbox as the 2wd Cosworth Sierras, which is unfair though images/smilies/smile.gif

EDIT: Btw Adaptech, how much is your car lowered? It looks quite low in the picture..

Actually the Lima and the Pinto engines where developed separately and didnt really have anything incommon, except that they where both sohc.
And the T5-gearbox in 2wd Cosworths is the same as in the Mustang, except it is modifiyed to handle the higher revs of the Cosworth-engine images/smilies/cool.gif

I dont know exactly how much it's lowered. Was like this when i bought it images/smilies/smile.gif The springs seems to be some cut lesjøfors-springs images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

BTW I'm almost finished with turbocharging my car. Just a few things remaining. I'm waiting for a Cosworth radiator and Intercooler. And a friend is going to make a bracket for my triggersensor.

Well, isn't it stock atm? Mine is getting a cam, a ported head and steel headers soon images/smilies/wink.gif I've been toying around with the idea of fitting a supercharger (since then I could still use the excellent exhaust manifold), but I have no idea where in the engine bay I would be able to fit one images/smilies/tongue.gif

Just about everything is already in the car. Just waiting for the triggersetup and exhaust to get done.

What is this? An old European spec Escort?

If it was here in the US, it would be a great alternative to the Datsun 510.

I would love to throw my SVO's powertrain in it. images/smilies/cool.gif

It's a 1975-1980 Ford UK Mk 2 Escort. Widely regarded as the most succesful rally car of all time. Oh yeah, and putting a V8 in one would be blasphemy, what they need is a high revving pinto ohc or BDA engine, or a Cosworth YB with lots of boost images/smilies/tongue.gif

@Adaptech, if you have everything lined up, don't just say it, post pics!

Has connected the Haltech-ecu the computer and checked that is working.
Need to mount up the ignition-system, extend a coolanthose and get some hoses too go from the turbo to the intercooler.

Here is a picture of the trunk in my car. It's the same car so I'd expect his to be very similiar. Ignore the bad speaker cables, they are fixed now images/smilies/smile.gif
http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/6632/sierrafinale005.jpg

Anyway, Nice! A few things though:

-Are you running stock compression? If not, did you lower it with different pistons, a thicker headgasket, or what? And if you are running stock compression, how much boost are you planning to put through it?
-Also, I'd REALLY like to know where you got that turbo manifold from. It looks almost like a modified stock Sierra one, but with a flange welded on. If it's just a modified stock one, what did you use to weld it? And if it's a modified stock one, I can use my spare manifold to make one aswell images/smilies/biggrin.gif Also, do you have any better pics of the manifold?
-I suggest you repaint the EFI text on the intake manifold, red doesn't go that well with all the blue silicone hoses, etc. in the bay images/smilies/smile.gif
-Are you panning on fitting power steering? With that manifold and turbo installation, Im pretty sure you could actually fit the pump&bracket on with very little problems. Most self made turbo manifolds extend too much from the 1. cyl exhaust port, and thus prevent you from fitting stock power steering.
-Are you running stock injectors (only good for ~170hp) or have you swapped cossie ones in? NVM, Noticed the blue injectors in the pictures images/smilies/wink.gif
-What turbo? Looks to be roughly the size of a T3. And what kind of power are you aiming to throw down?

Excellent progress anyway! In a couple of years time we might have 2 turbo'ed '86 iS Sierras on the forum from Northern Europe images/smilies/wink.gif
