Got a lot of work done on the car today, some pics:

O HAI! This is how you have to work on the car when you don't have proper garage:

Remember the leaking manifold/downpipe joint that caused me to fail the MOT last summer? -Won't be a problem anymore

Also sanded the front fascia flat and applied some primer.

Inlet and exhaust manifolds jumped off the car aswell. Head will come off tomorrow or on tuesday, since it's going to be a bit warmer

A few shots of the rear of the car to show the all red taillights (they beckon you public..), And the arrangements that had to be made to get the engine bay of the car inside

Should be finished by wednesday, can't wait for some proper snowfall

That's what I want! Shame it's carburettor powered. After looking at the pictures though, that hardly looks like a professional installation I will look more into supercharging the car next summer. Im definately leaning towards it over turboing. I don't really need THAT much power (204hp+ is enough for me), and it's definately a lot rarer and exotic. I wonder if anyone has fitted an eaton m62/m45 alongside a pinto? Because that's what I would do.

Anyway, got some more work done on the car today:

-More primer and sanding on the front panel, still need to fix a couple of pits with bondo, lay the final primer coat down, and paint
-Removed the original air filter box (took me far too long, since I didn't realize at first that you need to take the inner wheelarch off..)
-Removed the cambelt. Again.
-Made an adaptor for the new airfilter (took me far too long aswell. the finished result is FAR from pretty, but I hope it's atleast going to be functional..
-Drained the coolant
-Adjusted the valve clearances on the stock head.

-Also painted a bicycle

I plan to swap the heads tomorrow, might get it running aswell, but it could easily take a bit longer. However, I WILL have the car running by the time the roads are covered with snow.

Oh yeah, Im most likely going to buy one of these aswell:

EDIT: Oh yeah, as you can see, I welded the cast iron manifold, and developed a technique which works even with my POS welder. The seams are decent, definately airproof, and they did withstand several hammerblows, so I think it's safe to say it will stay on for a while at least

It was discussed on another forum. After alot of discussing and it was decided that it wouldnt be effective enough on a pinto But its always fun to prove someone wrong

I'm thinking of going to check the scrapyard where I got the front panel for some useable rear lights.

I prefer my (upcoming) A/f ratio gauge, but I wouldn't mind having a boost gauge on the dash Are those gauges mounted where the middle heater air outlets used to be?

Also: http://www.nettivaraosa.com/861487

That would be easily good for 200hp+..

Don't waste your money on scrapyards, just go to a mazda forum and find someone parting a car out, shouldn't cost you more than a 24-pack of beer for a decent set of taillights. Also, try and look for ones that are faded and have small scratches, and use that as a bargaining point. Unless the lights are cracked, or have very deep scratches, it should be fine. It takes all of 15 minutes to sand and buff the lights to a near-new condition. You can buy the tinting spray from Motonet for around 5€ a can. Don't paint the whole of the lights though, mask off the indicator area and only paint that. spraying the whole taillight will dim your brakelights somewhat

90-spec DOCH-dash. Not all mk2s have a dash like this.

I know it's a post-facelift dash. A friends rusted through 2.0 dohc estate has one exactly like that. I prefer the older style, especially when flocked. Gathered all my motivation, and went into the garage again and fitted the intake manifold & painted some bits. Tomorrow is the big day

Finished putting the new head in today, filled her up with fluids, and generally finished with the car. Went to start it up..

And it doesn't work

It's doing the exact same thing as before, after starting, the revs quickly rise to 2.5km, and then drop, and it dies

Im pretty fed up.

Well, im sort of running out of time, since I haven't got a garage.. Good thing it's still going to be reasonably warm for atleast another week. But I've got schoolwork next week, so not a lot of time for the car Im going to try adjusting it tomorrow, but Im not very hopeful..

I don't NEED it, but I WANT to use it I can take the train quite easily, but it takes me a bit over an hour with a bicycle and a train to get to school, whereas with a car I could do it in about 35 minutes. IM going to kill myself though if the car is still not running when the roads are covered with snow, the Volvo is just nowhere near as good to drive

Apparently youtube screwed up the quality Oh well. Everytime I cut the video, I go screw around with the ignition settings, the only time I touch the throttle is at the final startup, to keep it running. Im going to buy a new(used) distributor cap a,d refit some old plug wires tomorrow, because at the final startup, it sounded like it was running on 3 /misfiring..

Wasn't feeling very motivated today about the car, so I started refurbishing the alloys. Took all the lacquer and paint off the lips with:

And gave the wheels a bit of a scrub and a wash..

They look stunning. Im going to patch up the few scuff marks with JB-weld tomorrow, and proceed with repainting them. I would have liked to polish up the edges, but one rim has one deep scuff, so it wouldn't work Oh well, JB-weld and some alloy-wheel paint on the lips, and a polish on the spokes will still look fantastic
