You got that for 500 euros? Lucky bastard

Looks like a great little car, some of the plasticky bits are off but that's a strong engine and a great gearbox, plus installing toys (hi-def stereo, etc) should be simple.

EDIT: Also, getting a turbo/engine swap on these types of vehicles is fairly simple and best of all old turbos and Cosworth engines can be had fairly cheaply (less than the cost of the car, at least).

The only plasticky bit, that's wrong in the car is the bumper& the foglight cover, which I don't really care about. I know turbocharging a sierra is not expensive, but I don't really need the power, and have no welding tools, so for now it has to wait.

I must be missing something.. I don't get all the excitement.

For the price though it doesn't look bad.

Well, for the grand price of 500€ you would be normally looking at say, a 1.6 Nissan Sunny with 250k on the clock and rust everywhere.

You have to bear in mind that older rwd cars fetch a premium in Europe, since even in the 70's and 80's a lot of standard family cars were fwd. In here we don't have 500$ camaro's or 800$ eclipses, Finland has I think the third oldest cars in general in Europe. As such, used cars are more expensive in here.

To get some idea about the general prices:
http://www.nettiauto.com/ford/sierra/

See how many injection OHC (not dohc, that head sucks) 2.0 sierras you can find for ~500€, and then look at the state of them. I mean, I could get 300€ for the limited slip diff&rear driveshafts alone, that's more than half the price of the whole car..

Also, it's very rare to find an unmolested, good condition 80's rwd car. For example, it's practically impossible to find an e30 bmw that *hasn't* been owned by a yob.

Might not look too special from behind the windscreen of a v8 Mustang, but it's everything I look for in a first car.

Wow, nice car! I'm not so sure about the white wheel idea though. I'll play in Photoshop.

EDIT: Here you go. Nice looking with the whites indeed!

Please do, I'd really like to see the results aswell! I've got 5-spoke compomotives on mmy mind, and by painting the current alloys white, I thought I might get somewhere close

EDIT: Wow.. Might have consider powdercoating them ,because that looks awesome

Btw, to further answer Nabsters question, the Sierra has racing pedigree (well the cossie has, but it's a very similar car apart from the engine.) Found this awesome clip:

If you look closely, you can see that the passenger side one is cracked, I need to replace it.

Why would you need a set of Sierra headlights in the states anyway?

The grille is cracked a bit under the right headlight, so maybe a I will, but for now, I need to fix the front wing&headlight. If you have a Sierra of your own, post pics!

I had the 1.6 version back in the 90s... it ran on leaded fuel and lots of that, but it ran almost 180 km/h, so i guess the 2.0i should be fast enough without turboing it.
I loved the Sierra in general, the side windows are cut out much lower than in most other cars, so you have kind of a "glass box" feel... add RWD and TONS of space and you really got something!

A 23 year old 500 Euro car is a banger, full stop.

But that doesn't matter. We all can relate to the feelings whe had when we bought our first car. The world goes smaller and the possibilities bigger. Good times.

Words of advice from a banger-o-nomics man: (Only to consider when you use this car as your daily drive, otherwise scroll over it).
  • 1. It's your first car, so drive it like it is until it dies and save your cash for the next automotive step during that time.
  • 2. There is a reason why you've bought a cheap car. Don't forget that when you're go shopping for modifications (which you will do anyway...)
  • 3. You're 18, don't try and make it faster. It's fast enough.

But anyway, have fun. Now with added mobility.
Greetings, lip

You can do a straight swap for a cosworth engine, but since the pinto ohc engine (which I have) is great for turbocharging, there is no real need to throw 3000€ on a cossie engine. The Sierra was one of the last rwd uk fords (The Scorpio was the swan song), which is great when you think about the winters we have here
My family had a Scorpio back in Ukraine that car was pwn. Especially when the only tires we could find that fit it were off a Bronco so we ended up jacking up the rear end for that "Dragster" look
