This man speaks the truth, I had the pleasure of test driving a beautiful '06 yellow Elise with optional hard roof (not exactly sure what they're called), the driving experience is just nothing short of amazing. Although the lack of power-steering (especially parking) and the difficulties of getting in and out (wide door sills) of the car makes it hard to live with as anything more than a weekend car.

Doesn't stop me from wanting one images/smilies/thumbup.gif.

In fact they are! An imports dealer in São Paulo is bringing them. But asking over U$ 100k+ fot each...
What I meant is that they are not officially sold here.
Come to think of it: an Exige is still 1/5 the price of a Ferrari...someday, maybe..images/smilies/cool.gif

The lack of power steering actually doesn't bother me at all.

The harshness and lack of safety is what doesn't make it a commuting option for myself. Sometimes when you wake up, you just don't feel like that kind of driving experience. Some people do it, but I think they're masochists. images/smilies/mrgreen.gif

The Cayman gets this reputation of "not quite a 911".

Like, you buy it if you can't afford a 911.

I could buy a used 911 as easily as I could buy a used Cayman, but I actually PREFER the Cayman over the 911 by a lot. The only 911's I would take over a Cayman S are the Turbo/GT3/GT2. I won't get a 996 Turbo because it'd be out of warranty and I just am not thrilled with the 996's in general. Anything newer I can't even come close to affording.

I have driven a 996 CS4, a 997 CS2 (friend has one), and a Cayman S. The Cayman S wins HANDS DOWN in the driving experience category. It's just way more fun and confidence inspiring. I love Clarkson, but his take on the CS was dead wrong.

And I really don't like convertibles. (plus Boxsters are painfully common around here)

That's some amazing use of logic. Spend some more and get more of a car or spend a bit less and get less of a car. This applies to almost everything in life, you know images/smilies/wink.gif

Except I disagree that the 911 is more car...

The engine is in the wrong place and it's just not as fun. And who needs a backseat in a sports car? images/smilies/lol.gif

Hey man, if Hartford's not a long drive for you, you should come to the AutoX with the Lotus tomorrow. PM me and I'll get you the info, if you want.

Happily (or not) the only Lotus dealer in the country is 800 miles away.

I just wish the Elise sounded as pure as it is to drive, let me illustrate (exact same engine in both cars)

It's funny you said that. I've always felt the Elise doesn't sound as fast as it goes.

After receiving a go-ahead from the sales men that was ridding in the passenger seat on my test drive, I gave it full throttle through the first 3 gears from rolling start around 10mph and was completely caught off guard by the speedometer after I lifted my right foot off the throttle. I knew I was going fast, the Elise's acceleration speed can definitely be felt by the g force, but I didn't know I was going THAT fast without the engine noise I am accustomed to. Compare to S2000s, the 2ZZ engine in the Elise just doesn't scream at high revs as Honda engines do.

I will be posting videos of my car soon. It does NOT sound like that. I love the sound and have gotten many compliments. The stock exhaust sounds like a sewing machine.

Yeah, I was the blue 2008 Subaru Impreza. I was there with a blue Bugeye and a peanut eye STi, and the '87 Nissan 300ZX. You were parked right next to the hot dog guy. A few CT Subie guys are going on Sunday, are you?

PS: I was the one with the painter's tape Whalers logo on my hood.
