Default My Ford Escort 1.4 Xtra

First of all I would like to say that unfortunately I haven't got enough money to buy some of the cars you have. images/smilies/tongue.gif So this post will probably fall into Oblivion... images/smilies/lol.gif

Anyway I also would like to show you all my Ford. Since I had my driving license (about two years ago) I had my Escort. I thought it was better to start with an old car in case I was not a good driver and I liked to slam against things (thanks god I'm not "that" kind of driver!)

It's a Ford Escort Xtra which (thanks to zaybxcwd12) it's supposed to be a special version which has that red line arround the bumpers, tinted windows and many other stuff.
It has a 1.4 litre petrol 70bhp engine images/smilies/tongue.gif
Yeah!!! I know it should be pretty slow but It isn't !!! images/smilies/mrgreen.gif
I don't know exactly why... images/smilies/think.gif Maybe it's because the engine works with a carburetor (<--- It's spelled like that??).

Well enough talk!! Here you have some pics of it!!

As you can see, some kind of Freak stole my Ford badge in the front and I have to go to the nearest Ford dealership to get a new one (which costs a lot!!! )

http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/5264/foresgeneralnomatwf0.jpg

All the scratches you can see aren't my work. When I got the car They were already there (BTW I got it for free so I didn't bother to repaint it)

http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/8207/fores001cn4.jpg

Dont' you think that the back looks like a Bulldog???

http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/36/fordbacknomateg2.jpg

And finally an interior pic

I remember this Vltros, I am a little confused looking at the pics of the dash because yours has L instruments not the LX everything else it pretty much LX. Is it 5 or 4 Speed.
Another thing I have noticed from my years of having a Escort/Orion is yours has one of those stupid joysticks that control the sound that have absolutely no use whatsoever I am use the L was in equipped with that. Owned 1 for over a yrs like the car.

I like it, I have a passion like most of us do of loving the cars that where around when we 1st got started to learn to drive

It's 5 speed. So I could say that the "Xtra" badge it's like a mixture of the L/LX versions from the UK??? NICE images/smilies/biggrin.gif

It's nice to see other people which enjoy looking at older cars and find them Cool in a special way. Everyone else I know simply laugh at me because I've got this Ford and I haven't got a f**ing Seat Ibiza or anything that can be turned into Carbage easily. I really think a true Petrolhead appreciates those kinds of things.

And yeah!!! Old cars rule!!!!

Nothing spectacular, but it will take you wherever you want to go for many years, and when you finally replace it you'll miss it.

Oh, and you'd be surprised what people will steal from a car. Someone stole the metal tab that covers the nut in the rear windscreen wiper of my old Fiesta. Why would somebody want something like that?

The funny thing is, that when I owned my old Pintara, I thought it was a piece of shit and was always looking forward to getting something better, but now I do have something better, a part of me misses the old thing.

Nice car, those old Escorts were always very nice to drive, and pretty reliable.

Old cars are a lot cooler than those soulless new pieces of shit. Old cars have soul and charisma ("No, my car isn't unreliable, she just doesn't like rainy mornings so she gets a bit cranky.") Not to mention a coolness factor that can only be acquired by clearly being of a totally other era.

I wouldn't say my old Fiesta was cool, but I certainly miss it sometimes. Not the lack of power steering, of course. Nor the absolute lack of grunt whenever the smallest hill appears in the horizon. What do I miss then? Nothing really, but it's a car that's served me loyally for about 10 years, and in that time we've lived a lot together. I like it because of that, but I don't want any other '90s Fiesta. Unless it's an RS Turbo, of course... images/smilies/smile.gif

Hehe, of course new cars with their creature comforts and bigger engines also do have certain things going for them (especially the aforementioned creature comforts images/smilies/tongue.gif). But a lot of them lack the form-follows-function mentality of the older cars. Not to mention lots more stuff that can break (again those creature comforts)

You got it for free? That's some serious hoonage to be had there. images/smilies/driving.gif

I love how massive the "XTRA" badge is on the back.

You know what I really makes me love this car???

It's so damn difficult to drive!!!!! The steering the gears and the clutch are really hard (I'm starting to get fit after two years images/smilies/tongue.gif), and sensible (just don't look at what you are doing for a moment and... PUFFF!!!! the car has stalled), the manual starter and many other things.

But you know what??? I don't care!!!! Because everyday it's a challenge. I still haven't found a friend (who has never driven an old car) that can drive my Escort without stalling it images/smilies/tongue.gif It's so funny watching their faces of frustration trying to drive an Escort images/smilies/biggrin.gif

BTW the whole suspension of the car was changed the day I got it by a completely new one with a harder setup which gives me a better grip, and of course.... more FUN!!! images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I see in the background of your photos that you have no issues with rust in Spain, plenty of older cars still on the road. And congratulations on your new car!

Thanks! images/smilies/happy.gif

Yeah, rust isn't an issue here with older cars. But engine issues are more common due to high temperatures in spring/summer and low ones in winter.

Well!

It's time to say goodbye to my old and trusty Escort. I'll miss you so much images/smilies/cry.gif

It's been more than three great years with you. But 22 years of car it's way too much (No security features at all + high fuel consumption) and it was time for a change.

So here's my goodbye post to, what probably will be, the car which has got deeper into my heart. My first car.

Thanks for everything mate images/smilies/wink.gif

And now, its replacement...:
