Default My future car... 2001 Ford Focus 1.8 diesel

Well, I'll be set to get my driver's license within the next 12 months, and with plans to get a part-time job, I'll be financing this car from my pocket (a.k.a. fuel, services, insurance).

In the mean time... it's still my dad's, but here it is. Unwashed, unfortunately.

Yeah it looks good, Foci are great cars for new drivers, just remember they have high biting clutches. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I've never seen one with that black (is it wood effect) dashboard before, looks nicer than cheap-o silver or black plastic.

The clutch did bite me the first time I took the car out for a field drive on an old football pitch. Got in the car, gave it about 1200rpm (idle is around 700), released the clutch and it stalled.

And yeah, the dash looks kinda nice with the "wood" effect.

EDIT: The "wood" effect strips are also part of the door trim.

A friend of mine had a 1.4 completely stock and I don't what problem the car had but it was making a hell of a good "racing car" noise ! images/smilies/biggrin.gif

The guy was always thrashing it in town to make it move a little, I never had the chance to climb with him out of town.

Even on our old 1.6 petrol the performance wasn't great so I can imagine with the 1.4...

Im sorry, but that is just too good for a first car. A man's first car has to be ATLEAST 15 years old, slightly rusty, but sufficient power to have the "Wow" factor with friends you dont really car that much about.

I dont like the fact that people get nice motors for their first cars.. A first car is the definitive learning tool for driving, which means it has to be physically as bad as it gets, while still being MOT'd.

Atleast this is the road I will roam in 6 months time, anyone care to quess why? images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Seriously, that's a bit too good for a first car, but as long as YOU pay for it, its A-OK.images/smilies/cool.gif

imho it is not too good for a first car. The car i have now IS my first car. I busted my ass to get the money for it and i am still busting my ass to pay for it. but it is a good car to drive and while i was learning how to drive i didn't thrash it, hit it, not even scratch it. So as long as one keeps his head cool ANY car (within reason) is a good first car.

Those Focus can be found for dirt cheap in France, I paid more for my Fiesta than the price of the average used Focus on the market today.

It's a second-hand car... and it might just be bought from France. (There was a set of French number plates in the boot when we bought it)

Now it's just a matter of waiting for my driving license and the start of college (in about 14 months).

Why not have the best, safest car you can afford as your first car? Chances are you're going to make mistakes when you're learning (not that anyone should ever stop learning how to drive), given that you should put yourself in a vehicle that gives you protection from those mistakes.

It's a bit silly saying it's too good for a first car, he'll learn perfectly fine how to use it in a normal fashion and would probably be extra careful than in a 3000 year old beater.
