Looking good. Looks showroom spec, really hides all the work and effort you've put in and will blow people away.

Looks very good!
I'm looking forward to see some action video

I've actually had an old Lada myself, a 1980 Niva, I think they have exact same engine as your car (originally anyway)? And the neighbour next to my garage has 2 of these, they're really quite cool!

Yeah, the old Niva's engine is the same (2106). 1600 ccm. The new ones are not carburated, they have an injectorsystem, and they are 1700 ccm. I wanted to buy one of the 1700ccm engines, and tune it (no replacement for displacement ), but its way more expensive than the good ol' 1600 ccm engine. I have a 296° camshaft in it. Its quite strong with this one, and revs till 7500 easily. maybe later a 316° cam will be needed for higher revs . But the coolest part is, that its cheap (the camshaft)! A 316° cam is around 50-60 euro. My compression is enough for this cam to, so maybe later I will buy one.

Yeah, this is the cool part of a lada . The fivespeed is the tenth of the 4speeds price (around 100-150 euro), so I aint gonna buy five speed... They make sport trannys as well, two types: cheap, witch uses the factory layout, and the leaning teeth cogwheels (i dunno if this is correct, but I dont know how its called ), but with better transposition (a bit longer 1st, shorter 2nd and 3rd gear). These cost around 200 euro. The other type uses only the housing of the original tranny. Inside, they use straight teeth cogwheels, and the mechanism is different ( I cant really write it down in english ), you dont need clutch to change gear, etc.. The first gear is quite long (~70 kmh @ ~7000rpm), so they only use it on track, and rally races (or with 150+hp). These are very expensive (1000 euro!). But they have a lovely sound: http://racing.hu/files//doc/1783546/..._2006_Gy6..wmv You here a screaming noise, thats the sound of it, I love it . And if you watch carefully, you can see, that the 1st gear, is in the place of the 5th gear, the 2nd gear is in the place of the 1st, etc . But for me... 4speed cheap-bitch .

This isnt mcpherson. Trust me, all of the lada users cut the springs, thats how we can adjust the ride hight. There is nothing else. Mine is lowered about 2-3 cm-s front, so not to much, but the rear springs arent cutted yet. I'm gonna cut out the same amout, to get the level right, cos if you watch the pics, you can see, that the rear is much higher. I only use it on tarmac, no gravel and such things.

Allright, update time, woohoo . Well, the car runs (runned) good, but than something started to whisper. Its the ball bearing at the clutch. So I needed to get the tranny out of the car, but to reach the screws easily, i had to take of the carbs, and if the carbs are on the table, why not refirbish them? Well... It wasnt so easy... Every single hole was choked... Like the accelerators pumpjet . And the car was fast like this... Well, cant wait to try it now . I bought a new intake as well, cos its aluminium. The seating position was way to high for me, so I cutted out the things that hold the seat, and I'm going to mount new ones for lowwer position. I'm looking forward for a new steeringwheel as well.

Currently bidding on it on ebay... Lets hope the best .

The only big problem is, that I dont have to much time, because I'm in a deep project. I'm making a calander for bmwpower.hu , so I dont have any time for my car I need to make a loads of car shootings, and than edit, call the press etc. But, I'm getting a little money for it, so its cool.

But lets hope the car will run again, snow is coming...

Pics:

Disassambling:

Old intake vs new:

Stripping the carb:

Finished carb:

Old Seat mountings where spot welded, so they needed to be drilled:

Than weld the holes:

Material :

This is how the new mounting will look like:

The clutch, the tranny, and the little fucker (the bearing that made the sound):

Gonna buy ramtubes for better flow. But right now i need $$$ .

Naah, its not really a big problem. I could have left that bearing in it, but its not a big job to take the tranny out, put a new bearing in it, and than put it back. Its a 4-5 hour job. But it ran for 4 weeks before that . Its quite strange that a Sachs bearing didnt like the 7000+ rpm.

Great work - its fun to have a peek in to people's projects, please keep us up to date. A nice vid going around a race track would be cool if you intend to track day it - or how about the Ring one day?

Thanks everybody .

snq, I would love to . I think snow is going to be late here again... . It always comes at january...

47, and Cobol74: Yeah, I want to go to a track and make videos, but only at spring. First vids are going to be from winter . There is a couple of places where we are going to go. Well, I'm not going to try everywhere, since I'm quite new to rwd. The past snowsessions where fwd driving sessions. Thats fun to, but you need to use handbrake waaay to much time, and that slows you . Well, we will see what I can do, and what I can handle.

Scott: Thanks! I cant wait my other projects as well . Lets hope everything goes well!

Yeah I'm getting better and better, still not always perfect. But if something is weak, I cut it off, and do it again, just to be sure.

It's becoming a hell of a car! Did you plan to put the battery in the trunk, or will you let it behind the right seat?

Well, one thing is for sure: Its now good there, cos the seat is going to be lower, and more back now... So I need a new place for it. Maybe it will be in the trunk .

Good for weight distribution; it's like that in my friend's E30, despite a battery tray is present under the hood (probably for the smaller models)

It's also like that in my car but the reason is probably the lack of room under the long hood: it's full!
