I was going to argue against you here, Lev, about how style and emotion usually trump pure speed (and how emotion can be derived from pure speed and raceworthiness depending on your personality)...but then again I realized it's MattDizzle, who passes off his F-Body as the Supreme Answer to Everything and denies that he does. And it's a shame that muscle cars are slowly being seen as the domain of old, fat bearded white guys who've given up their raucous draggin' days as to not embarrass their wigger grandkids, and who resort to driving really slowly to ice cream parlors with their old, fat wives. If muscle cars ever lower in price instead of being nostalgia-addled pieces to bald-free days then I hope I'll be among those spearheading the revival.

I dont know if muscle cars are a dying breed...they just arent cheap anymore. You can consider a modern Charger SRT or a Pontiac G8 as close relatives to muscle cars since they have bigish V8s with some strong horespower. And dont forget the Dodge Challenger and upcoming Camaro...they are very much muscle cars, just not like the ones in the past.

What really annoys me is guys like one that I met a few weeks ago at a car show. He bought a beat up Challenger and restored it (Im glad that he did... although when he said "I restored it" he meant "I had it restored at a shop") for a total of about $95k. Granted, the car looked fantastic, but I felt kind of... wrong about it. $95000 invested into a car that will be babied onto and off of trailers and towed to car shows. A car that will never see another drag strip or full throttle run. A car that wont see a single drop of rain. I feel that thats not what muscle cars are about and its a waste of a fantastic machine.
Hopefully the cloud will part for american muscle once the new camaro comes out. (as long as they do it right, ie it wont weigh more than the moon coughchallengercough)

I totally agree, I have no problem with someone getting a shop to build their car (some people just aren't mechanically inclined) but cars are meant for driving, especially muscle cars.

On a somewhat irrelevant note... I've always wanted to get a shirt made that has a picture of a muscle car doing a burnout on it and has the caption... Smoke Tires, not drugs. images/smilies/smile.gif
