What's with the link, I don't get it? Because I don't own both cars? Anyway, thanks. Yeah you're right they are noisy, I can't use the tripod at the minute as I have a sheared bolt from a cage-mount stuck inside the camera body, so I had to take these with a fast shutter, shitty WB and shitty ISO so they wouldn't blur, then edit them in CS2.

I dunno if it has deep dish rims or stretchy tyres on the back but it looks so awkward on an MX5... what have you done to them?

The wheels are Sportmaxx 002s, they're 15x8J ET0, with 195/50/15 street tyres on (Yoko A539s). On the way I have some 205/50/15 Toyo R888s. The bolt pattern is 4x100 (same as Civics, Golfs, Starlets etc).

Post up some details of your car

The spec-list is pretty hefty, but a basic overview is that the car is still N/A and not making far from stock power. The only power mods are a full exhaust system (4-2-1 manifold, de-cat, exhaust) and a timing advance. She's now much 'revvier', and much more responsive and despite the only very slight increase in power, is a fair amount faster than my friends 1.8L. The brakes, suspension and other chassis parts have all been upgraded for the track, I've developed my own 4-wheel alignment over the last 14 months, and my last mod was a lightweight bucket seat/harness, which have helped massively.

Depends on the track really, and a whole host of other variables. In a straight line, his car hit a 14.1 quarter mile when it was stock, mine hit a 16.8. Since then, he's fitted an exhaust, Mugen CAI and a Spoon ECU, so the car now makes power all the way to 9'500rpm. He also has £1400 worth of suspension (Tein Flex w/ EDFC), all the OEM bracing (it's a Type-Rx), AP Dixcel carbon-ceramic rotors, carbon pads...it's a very capable car. That said, it soon cooks street tyres, and at Croft a few weeks ago, it became very 'understeery' no matter how you drove, and from starting in the morning over-taking absolutely everything (Evos, Caterhams, single-seaters), by the end of the session even the E30 BMWs were taking him. Without trying to sound boastful, I'm the faster driver (though he is massively competitive), but he has the faster car. So on the 'Ring, mine is faster, and also at Croft. At Silverstone, his is much faster. He's yet to use the Dunlop Formula R cut-slicks he bought ages ago on track, but I know for certain that, until my R888s go on, I won't be able to keep near him on any track other than Curborough. I've been impressed enough by his car that me and my partner were considering selling both of our cars to buy one, though I've recently signed up for the RAF so we're not going to bother.

We've both been talking about getting our racing licence next year and trying for the Nippon challenge, so we'll see who's faster over the course of the season if it comes to fruition. Really though, we're both just in it for the kicks.

Type R's are fast, but then again with THAT much work done to it, it ought to be! Does he really use that brake setup on the street? Do they even work when they're cold? I think a better upgrade for you if you want to stay Mazda...FD Rx7 More than enough power stock, and one of the best chassis' around. With wheels/tires, coilovers, brakes, and some chassis reinforcement, an FD would be intense.

Hah, don't get me wrong. Even when it was stock, that car was damned quick. Now it's just very, very quick indeed. He does that set-up on the street, though he does very little mileage. That said, the pads minimum operating temperature isn't far from OEM, but they work up until a ridiculous temp.

I have considered an FD before, but I think I'll be sticking with the Roadster. A JRSC MP45 will give me a nice smooth increase in torque, and with a 62.5mm pulley a decent hike in power too.
