That car does not make nearly enough power to make any use of the AWD system. I've driven a 2.0T A3 here, which is nothing but a more expensive GTi and it handled absolutely beautifully with FWD. AWD starts making sense when you are running about 300-400WPH and similar torque figures until then it's all suspension/tires.

Some of us get this thing called 'snow' for several months every year, you know. A 50hp fiat panda can make use of AWD in winter conditions.

Damn they put that tiny ass engine into an A6? How long did it take to get 0-60 3 hours?

It's an A6, not a top fuel dragster. 120-130hp in an A6 doesn't make it any less of a comfy car to move your ass around in.

We get that snow thing as well and guess what I was absolutely fine in an FWD Buick in something like a foot of snow on the road. A friend of mine used to drive an RWD Mustang with all season tires in Rochester winter (ice everywhere) for years and didn't crash. It's called car control and driving according to conditions.

EDIT: I think Russia gets a bit more snow than Finland with a bit less of snow plowing, despite that people drive craptastic Lada's with RWD, no power and nearly bald tires (not that winter tires would help on bad cars like that much) in these conditions.

It's this kind of thinking that gets on my nerves when everyone is crawling 20mph on the highway here only because there is a bit of water on the road. Snow is not the end of the world and doesn't require a HUMVEE to get through....

Yes it does, the engine will not be able to propel the car smoothly and will need to be revved the fuck out of merging onto highways. There is a reason why large luxury cars tend to get powerful engines...

I've never said that you NEED awd to get around when the conditions are bad, but it's still a very nice thing to have. And you don't need several hundred hp before it becomes useful either.

It's an all year tyre that we had lying around from mum's previous car that were the right dimensions. They'll be ok for another year, after which I'll buy 16" rims and some nice tyres to go with them.
