This wooden interior doesn't look cheap:

It doesn't look very comfortable though

No wonder all Aston Martins and Jaguars and Rollses have black plastic and not that pesky cheap wood inside.

1) Ice's car does not have real wood it has fake wood.
2) In a case of a non-Bentley level car wood makes it look as if their trying too hard to give a car an upmarket feel when the car itself is not.
3) I was talking SPECIFICALLY about black interiors that most of you seem to have missed since no one has posted a black interior with wood yet.
4) For wood to actually look good in an interior the rest of the interior has to be done to match, the pic posted somewhat proves my point, the interior was done from the get go to work with wooden accents it wasn't just an afterthought as it is in the A/S4 Audi's that normally come with either black, tan or silver plastic accents.

My problem is that alot of times there are "upmarket" materials used in cars with no real thought. In the A4 (and most black interiors really) wooden accents just do not belong and are an afterthought.

The clearcoat's chipped in one place and you can get to it. It's real wood.

Well, seeing as there's wood, I wouldn't say it's the base model. Engine-wise, yes, but why can't you upgrade the interior even when keeping the power at minimum?

Here is my thing. An FWD 1.8 N/A A4 is nowhere near premium luxury territory. It might be a stupid tradition but for the most part you get better toys with more power. RS4 has pretty much everything standard even if for the most part people don't get it for luxury. So when I see things like wood inserts in what is otherwise a very basic model it makes me feel about the same way as seeing a Civic with a gigantic wing on the back, it's basically pointless.

Also as I said the main issue with wood inserts to me specifically (and you can disagree if you want I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone) is that interior has to be designed so that it doesn't look out of place. In the A4 of every single generation it's just not IMO and as such it doesn't work too well. Maybe if I saw it in a tan interior I would change my mind but so far every single A4 based (I'm including S/RS in there) car I have seen with wood inserts had black interior and it just doesn't seem to fit right.

If this was wood in a VW Golf, then that would be one thing, but Audi is VAG's high end brand. It is acceptable.

BTW, check out my wood, son.

Bah, more electrics need to be fiddled with. Started the car last night and saw the left light (the one that doesn't respond to the dial on the dash) move all the way up and shine through the 2nd floor window.

Also have an appointment at the garage to take a look at the squeaks on monday.

What do you guys think about the alternator bearing? Is it worth replacing?

+1 for da woooooooooodz!!!!

Velkom to zee vorld ov German elektriks!

I can't understand why VAG mobiles have such weird problems with the electrics. Not that BMWs or Mercs are immune though that's for damn sure.

Really????

News to me.

Ice, if the alternator is squeaking or squalling, you should have it replaced. Failure isn't far away if it is doing that and it probably already has internal damage.

Well, a lot of the electrics problems are due to the car being crashed in its past and not 100% fixed. The metal was, the plastic and electrics not so much. If nothing else, I'll at least have them cut the power to the motor so the light will remain level.

The alternator's bearing just makes a constant whine, which changes in pitch as the revs do. I'll get a quote tomorrow during the check up.

Sometimes it is more expensive to replace the bearing than replacing the whole alternator, because of the labor time. Most techs nowadays would not know how to do it anyway, and will quote on the high side to push you towards replacing the whole unit.
