Default Our 2002 Toyota Prado

I'm not going to pretend I own this but this is my parents 2002 Toyota Prado TX Diesel, seems to be a bit of interest on the board for some offroad machines.

It's had the "usual" modifications performed to it to improve it for offroad work (within the first couple of months since purchase new), which in the first year of its life it got (we took it up to NT) but my dad has been working overseas for the last couple of years so it hasn't had much use (it has only 50,000km on the clock)

Basically it has the following 'mods
  • Beefed up suspension
  • Secondary long range fuel tank
  • Plethora of radios and antenna's
  • Chunky ARB bullbar
  • Custom built shelving "solution" in the boot with fridge mount
  • Car fridge
  • Brake controller for the caravan
  • Dual batteries with isolator

Main things that suck about it
  1. It has all the inherit traits of a 4wd (slow and rolly)
  2. The cd player really sucks and clearly wasn't designed for use in a 4wd, if you take it 4wd and have accidently left cd's in there (not even playing) they have a tendancy to jam in there (requiring you to take it to toyota)
  3. Foul ass wood trim, we had no idea it would look this bad in real life images/smilies/tongue.gif

This baby will hit 0-100km/h eventually thanks to its hopeless 3L Turbo diesel images/smilies/tongue.gif

After a while they decided they wanted a caravan for more relaxed camping but wanted something that was still capable of 4wd'ing. Here is the resualt a 2005 Trakmaster (built here in Melbourne) designed for 4wding with the usual luxuries of caravanning. It hasn't seen much use because of my fathers aforementioned work overseas. According to the makers it will go about 90% of the places the prado would go by itself.

Anyways enjoy

Nice! I like it. Coupled with the trailer, that's a nice little offroad package.

Given toyota probably made millions of them, I beleive the car is called something else overseas.

Least the LR fuel tank hasn't fallen off this car like the one in our Mitsu Pajero, it litterally fell off and was dragging along the ground... (Near innaminka)

Same steering wheel on our 2001 Sienna. Toyota probably has them on nearly half their cars worldwide. Really really nice looking truck! What are those cases for at the back?

The cases in the back of the car are for storing stuff, if we go camping without the trailer it holds food that doesn't need to be refigerated (pasta etc) or first aid kit etc. Just keeps everything neat and provides a proper mount for the refigerater.

Also any australians reading this consider supporting the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)
