After too long of a wait I finally got my Discovery out and used it for what it was made for. A group from MVLRS went out to play in the mud yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm so addicted now! images/smilies/biggrin.gif

It isn't really a Land Rover off roading trip if nothing goes wrong:
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/KaJuN4/White%20Cross%20Farm/Picture223.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c152/KaJuN4/White%20Cross%20Farm/Picture224.jpg

I was trying to get myself through some thick mud when there was a loud bang under the hood. It sounded like a bomb went off and then steam started pouring out. I was certain I had blown my engine but very fortunately it was just the radiator hose that burst. I got even luckier by having it break right where it connected to the engine so we were able to hook it back up and keep on going with no problems the rest of the day. It was a very scary moment but it didn't dampen my spirits.

Some of the other guys have some pretty cool stuff as well:

P38 Range Rover, the only other stock truck besides mine.

Airtime! That hill was massive fun!

The club president got his RRC very much stuck.

It's a real treat seeing one of these out on the trails!

I'll update this thread as other members post up more photos and maybe some videos. Future trips will also be documented for your viewing pleasure.

The guy with the silver Range Rover has a background in amateur motorsport and it was his first time off roading as well. His racing background showed on this one hill that the rest of us were crawling up while he blasted up it like Michael Schumacher. images/smilies/lol.gif

Awesome shots Kajun! Hope to see some more. And some videos too.

So you're addicted? Does that mean you'll be modifying your truck soon? images/smilies/tongue.gif

One of my friends brought his Jeep CJ7 with a Ford 302ci V8 out this weekend and was blasting up some hills. But just as we were leaving, an exhaust hanger let go and tore one half of his dual exhaust off. images/smilies/lol.gif

I'm at a crossroads as to the future plans with the Disco. On the one hand I'm a purist with cars and to me it won't really be a Land Rover anymore if I start putting other stuff on it. On the other hand now I can see the advantages of some of the upgrades the other members have on their Rovers. But then again they got stuck in places I didn't with my stock Disco with all terrain tires and they had to pull me out of places they easily made it through. I think more experience with different types of terrain will help sort things out. One little upgrade I have planned for the very near future is a better front recovery point because it sucked having to reach in around the wheel to get the shackle on and off. More off road worthy tires are also on my mind.

Minimum 2 inch suspension lift is a must. Should be relitively easy having coil springs front and rear to get a kit. Dunno much about disco's, hardened toyota man here, but you may get some 33's under those guards.

Other than that that a great lookin truck you got there. Hope your havin as much fun with it that the pics make it kook

2 inch lifts are quite common for Land Rovers and there are a couple companies that make bolt-on kits for it. It seems straightforward and relatively inexpensive. Anyways onto more photos!

Getting ready for the first big hill of the day. That's me in the green coat.

Going through a mud pit after waiting for the Disco in the background to get himself unstuck. I made it through easily. images/smilies/biggrin.gif
http://pic.phyrefile.com/2008/03/18/3979554391100BG.jpg

Making a splash in another mud pit. The exit was quite steep and I thought I'd get stuck but I made it.
http://pic.phyrefile.com/2008/03/18/4159824391100BG.jpg

Getting hooked up for my first time being recovered after the all the steam cleared.
http://pic.phyrefile.com/2008/03/18/5196724391100BG.jpg

More carnage from the radiator hose incident. Sound insulation is for sissies!
http://pic.phyrefile.com/2008/03/18/6096724391109BG.jpg

I'm sitting back watching them being very much stuck.
http://pic.phyrefile.com/2008/03/18/7151524391100BG.jpg

There's a two day event coming up early next month so I'll be sure to have lots more photos. I can't wait!

Only a radiator hose gone wrong? You're clearly not doing it right. Last time I went out with my brother in his Disco we got through a turbo, rear diff and about 2 cans of EZ Start.

Nice pics!

Question now is, leave the mud on to make the Landy look purposeful or clean it all off?

When I get some free time and decent weather I'm going to clean the mud off the engine and the undercarriage but it's staying on the exterior for as long as possible. images/smilies/smile.gif

And for Peter: Yeah it could have been a lot worse. I guess the terrain just wasn't rough enough for some proper damage. Although the club president dented up his fender a little when he got stuck in that creek.

Nice pics. It's too bad I'm selling my Jeep. I won't be able to enjoy off-roading in my own rig for a while. images/smilies/sad.gif You'll have to post more pics so it'll bring back memories

Yeah, you're going to have to do some mods on that thing. Do you really want your Land Rover to be the only stock truck in those vids? images/smilies/lol.gif It looks like a soccer mom grocery getter! images/smilies/tongue.gif Just kidding.

But seriously, you don't need much. A couple of inches of lift and some really nice offroad tires would do wonders. No disadvantages to better tires and alittle extra ground clearance. It would also look cool with a set of ARB bumpers and a winch, but that can get pricey. Those Land Rovers look really bad ass when they're all "kitted" out. Like something you could drive around the globe in, without much help. The other 2 Discovery's in your group are pretty badass. images/smilies/thumbup.gif
