Good trails are fun, even more so when they're not completely made of mud. I'm told I have yet to see what they consider proper trails. It should be a fun summer!

My previous cars were on the small side and I wanted to get something a little bigger and with more room to haul stuff to and from college. Originally I was looking into Chevy Blazers and Dodge Durangos and I happened to find the Disco and it was in my price range. I'm a sucker for vehicles that are a bit unusual and the rest is history. Now I'm really glad I didn't get something else because I wouldn't be able to do near as much stuff as I can do with this one. I've noticed my mom is less keen to want to borrow it ever since I took the running boards off. images/smilies/lol.gif One of the other members offered me a good deal on his current lightly-used lift springs and I'm quite tempted.

Looks like fun. images/smilies/biggrin.gif And yeah, stick with the "good trails". Not like the one I went on last week where I managed to dump my trunk on it's side. And I was driving conservative! images/smilies/dry.gif

Looks like a lot of fun man, makes me wish I would've bought a truck instead of my Ford images/smilies/sad.gif. It's funny that those Rovers can get through that muck only to be stopped by some random part falling/blowing off.

Hehe, well I'd expect it to self-destruct while doing something spectacular (like all my old GM stuff images/smilies/lol.gif), not just petering out and dying later.

After seeing these pictures, I got a sudden urge to get a LR. A nice P38A in BRG would do nicely.

+1!
Although I don't like the off-road scene in America (with all the pick up trucks) I love the Land Rover Discovery and would love to do some offroading in one of those.

Still gotta check out the video but looks like massive fun. I had soo much fun, (and so much anger,) in my 1991 Chevy S10 long box. I'll have to post a picture of it stuck.

Good thing you didn't get the Blazer since I know about them after my S10; they have serious problems on the front-end. Then again, I did hit every bump I could find doing 30. images/smilies/tongue.gif

Great truck for as much mud I did get through with bald tires, it was like half a foot deep at times only in rear drive.

Good news! The Dacia Sand...er wait that's not right. Oh yes I got the Disco dirty again! images/smilies/biggrin.gif It was a fun weekend that started with the club meeting up at the newly created Land Rover category in the local annual British car show (photos here: http://forums.finalgear.com/vehicle-...-2008-a-29434/ ). Afterward we hit the trails before doing a bit of camping. It was much easier going this time around since it was mostly dry.

A creek bed rock crawl. It was so bumpy and so much fun.
http://img371.imageshack.us/img371/2537/picture198an2.jpg

We were able to find some mud but even this stuff was much easier than the muck we had been in during previous trips. But even so I gave my best Clarkson impression by shouting "Powerrrrrrr!!" as I went through it. Hopefully that makes it onto one of the upcoming Youtube videos.

Someone brought out a new toy and it was great seeing one in action. I had always had doubts about the LR3 with all it's electronic gizmos but it thoroughly impressed me as it made it through everything on road tires. It's still a Land Rover. images/smilies/cool.gif
http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/5062/picture226sx2.jpg

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/8351/picture232ut0.jpg

It's becoming a tradition that mine comes out with the most mud on it.
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/2843/picture244cq7.jpg

It was a blast and we rode some great trails. My favorites were the ones with very steep hills to climb. It's exhilarating giving it the beans when you can't see the ground in front of you. But of course with Land Rovers you're not having fun until something breaks. I must have done something to really piss off my Disco's cooling system because the radiator hose blew up my first time out and this time the coolant reservoir cap decided it wanted to unscrew itself and let all my coolant run free.

Cool, looks like it was a good time.

The last trip I took was a few weeks ago when me and my brother did a night run through Sycamore Creek. It's too damn hot right now to do much during the days.

Hey KaJuN

Looks like a lot of fun images/smilies/biggrin.gif. It is nice to see a Disco out getting dirty (trying to keep up with the Series folk eh images/smilies/whistling.gif). My nephew just bought a 97 D1 that we are prepping as a trail truck.

I'll do my best. images/smilies/lol.gif It was amazing following that old Series through the trails. 97 D1s seem to be pretty darn popular as we have a handful of them in the club.

And right now you can't beat the price of them. How many $47,000 cdn trucks 10 years old can you buy in really decent shape for $1500!!!!

That looks like so much fun! I'd love to tackle a trail like this, but I just don't think the batmobile could handle it.

Have you ever used the ladder on the back of your Disco?

I always wondered about that - why on earth it was there (as opposed to being an optional extra).

I saw it used once (on The Mole UK), but that was it...

Funny you mention the ladder because some other local club members were saying how strangely optioned-out my vehicle is. It's the base model but has leather, rear jump seats, hitch, ladder, and the little folding step. The ladder is supposed to make it easier to get to the big roof rack like some of the other vehicles have so it's a bit strange having that by itself. As far as I can tell a roof rack has never been fitted. I like the ladder because it makes it easier to wash the roof and gives a good handle when opening and closing the rear hatch.

I always thought it looked pretty neat on the Discovery too
