to be honest, it looks like the designers didn't have comfy chairs when they 'sort of' designed it

maybe its good to drive.. or has a good feel.. w/e.. but in no way it looks good or something even near to good.

I've only had it (officially) for a about a month. It just got up and running 3 weeks ago, then promptly blew up again.

Good news is it's running again and it's been practically rebuilt.

There's nothing good about the way a buick drives. They don't handle worth a damn because of the soft suspension, and they aren't comfortable because of the soft suspension. They just make you feel like you're in a boat on choppy waters. It's why the term "boat" applies so well to them

Then of course the cars are just blobs of metal with some chrome.

I just saw a Cavalier with the exact same side vents as mine. I feel like crying, I almost can't take the top down. Oh, the shame!

Worse still, my body man (not gay slang) said he didn't know how to go about taking them off without hurting the paint.

They're usually held on by 3M (or cheaper clones thereof) double sided tape. Wash and wax the car (or at least the fenders), then spray WD40 around the edges where the fake portholes meet the fenders. Wipe off the excess, then try to pull one off after 3-4 minutes; you may want to try a twisting motion. It should start coming off - once you see the adhesive start to come off, spray more WD40 into the widening gap to aid in removal. When done, wash the whole car again and voila! no more lameass fake portholes, and usually no paint damage.

I am not responsible if you follow these directions and you DO damage your paint, though.

Are they glued? Perhaps some work with a heat gun could do the trick

Another trick would be to get a cheap wire cheese slicer, remove the roller assembly from it, tape the ends so it doesn't scratch the paint, and then insert the wire in the gap between the fender and the fake portholes. Then pull up away from the car and back on it, perhaps sawing it back and forth a bit, and slice through the foam tape that holds it on. Soak the remnants of the pad in WD40 for a while and they should come off by rubbing with your thumb.

It's funny how things happen sometimes.

I was at my local bicycle shop today, and the owner saw the Miata and being a Fiero owner himself we BS'ed for a little while. He commented on the side vents and I told him how much I wanted them off. He agreed that they were God awful ugly, but just wasn't going to say anything.

So anyways he says he gets bikes in and some have the same 3M foam tape stuff taped to different parts of the frame to prevent scratched paint from abuse during shipping. He uses brake cleaner and then a plastic orange peeler to wedge it off without damaging the paint job. Then just wash it off. Gonna try it tommorow.

Congrats on the car!

How are the rear parts of your rocker panels doing? I just met a friend of mine who also has one and her's look terrible (this coming from someone who drives a almost 30 year old Fiat ).

Always make sure the drains aren't blocked!

Not to sound like a smart ass here, but there's an OEM washer that goes on that Oil Pan Drain plug and Mazda sells them with the intention of them being replaced every so many oil changes.

Your mechanic dweeb didn't know this apparently and when the oil plug kept dripping (either old washer or NO washer on it) his response was to keep tightening the shit outta it 'till it stopped drippin'.

You're lucky he didn't think of squirtin' some Lock-Tite or a little JB Weld on that bad-boy to help stop it from leakin' too!

Mazda dealer has those washers in stock.

Some motors have none (close machined tolerances) some have a thin Telfon type, some have copper crush washers, some with integral small rubber o-rings.

It's kinda hard to know what's OEM on a used car, because so many guys have been there before ya. Kinda like datin' Brittany Spears I'd imagine.

Heh, they're not that bad. They're definitely soft, but choppy? Maybe if the shocks are fried. And I'm so used to the deafening racket my cars make that I'm never sure when my grandma's Buick is actually running. Even going down the highway; smooth as glass and maybe just a little tire noise. It's creepy .

Twerp, this is why you always change your own oil. One of my biggest peeves is when some asshole puts his oil pan drain plug in with an air wrench.

So old dad today just popped the drain bolt off with a breaker bar. I hate him, I couldn't find the breaker bar he had 16" of leverage I didn't. Oh, and NO gasket on the drain bolt, and it has a Mazda OEM oil filter like it was done at a dealership?

Made a quick weight saving mod today, notice anything different in the photo?
