No offense man, but your mechanic sounds like a parts changer (i.e. not a good mechanic at all) if you've replaced all that shit and still haven't nailed down the problem...

No I'm the parts changer, the trouble my mechanic and the dealership have had is that whenever I bring it in it's never acting up, until it just died this past week.

Oh images/smilies/lol.gif Isn't there some rule/law that says that should happen? Kind of like Godwin's or Murphy's?

Is it possible to just leave the car with the mechanic (assuming you trust them that well) for a couple of days and tell them to try it out a few times each day?

Yeah we tried that, and never got it to act up. So then I started taking it and driving it for hours every morning and it would only misfire a couple of times. And I don't have the heart to make them do it, I know they hate my car images/smilies/wacko.gif

But they're still better than the dealership, don't call me when you've finished, then I show up after I've called them, and get, "Couldn't reproduce the problem, that'll be $90."

I hate paying people to diagnose cars, thankfully I don't have to deal with that shit. My dads a mechanic, and cheap as well so he learned to properly diagnose parts to avoid wasting money.

The good news is, you have an entirely new ignition system, the bad news is, after looking at doing some maintenance on my car I found out about the "COP/Coil on plug" conversion which reduced ignition component costs significantly.

Changed the Camshaft Angle Sensor the other day. Have probably put 100-150 miles on the car since then and no misfires. So cross your fingers, I'll give it two weeks before I say it's good to go.

Now all I have to do is fix the Porsche, sell my sailboat, and maybe well start working on the Miata, make it better. I have BIG plans, actually more like light plans images/smilies/wink.gif

Edit: Fuck, last autocross of the year is tomorrow not next week like I thought, I have to work. No track time for the Miata this year, maybe I'll get there late and see what they say?

Absolutely have solved the misfire! It was a loose/dirty connector coming off the coil, hence every time I worked on the engine I unconnected and reconnected it the problem went away. Fuck me, $300 in diagnosing and it's a ten cent piece.

Anyway car goes into storage next week. I found this great old place to store it, it's one of Studebaker's old warehouses, $150 for 4 months and every nice car in the greater South Bend area is stored there. And I get to ride in a freight elevator. I'll see if they let me take my camera with. Not sure if I can take pictures for the sake of security?

SOME ROTTEN FUCKING HOMELESS GUY CUT THE TOP TO MY CAR! IF YOUR GOING TO BREAK INTO MY CAR AT LEAST HAVE THE DECENCY TO STEAL SOMETHING. I KNOW THE RADIO IS FROM 1991 BUT YOUR HOMELESS, YOU CAN'T BE TO PICKY ON HOW YOU GET YOUR TUNES DUDE. TOO BAD YOU COULDN'T GET THE IPOD OR $2,500 WORTH OF LAPTOPS AND TEXTBOOKS IN THE TRUNK. THEY'RE LOCKED UP, I WOULD'VE LEFT IT OPEN IF YOU WANTED THE RADIO THAT BAD, I CAN REPLACE IT FOR $100, THE SOFT TOP IN PUSHING TEN TIMES THAT. I HOPE YOU FREEZE AND DIE TONIGHT. IF YOUR STUPID LITTLE BRAIN CAN'T FIGURE OUT THERE'S NO STREET VALUE FOR A 17 YEAR OLD STEREO, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOUR GOING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO STAY WARM.

Twerp, have you thought that possibly this car is cursed? It's brought you nothing but pain and aggravation while picking your pockets clean. I think the effects of those stick on fake ventiports has been much longer lasting than anyone thought they would.

It's a shame you live so far away, if you were in the UK you could've had my soft-top for free.

This reminds me, I really need to disable the trunk release in my center console. OUCH.

Damn that sucks. The homeless top slasher, enemy of miata owners everywhere. When I was looking at buying one I remembered a very long and contested thread on miata.net as to weather it was better to just leave you car unlocked and pay for periodic replacement of the radio or risk the top being slashed with a locked door.

Jeep owners have the same problem. The general consensus is to leave the doors unlocked and take the faceplate off the stereo or leave the stock one.

I never lock my miata and I bought a cheap stereo so I dont have to worry about that. Now that I have no top it's not a problem for me.

With ipods so prolific it's probably just better to hide am amp and a volume control with it hooked to that. Hot rodders do it to avoid spoiling the look of the cars.

I'm thinking about losing the soft top all together, as well as the radio, spare tire, AC, and anything else I can lose. Perhaps the carpets too. And it was supposed to be stored tommorow!

Doesn't hold up very well on the Miata tops, at least not the aftermarket replacement that was on mine.
