Started to measure the proper length of the prop shaft today, but when it came to cutting it, my anglegrinder caught fire.
Seems like soviet steel was too much for the poor grinder.

I think i will keep it "Chernobyl Blue" for the time being, just because the color is bloody ugly.

New grinder bought and i gave the prop shaft a rematch today. Managed to get it in two pieces but it took 3 (!) cutter discs to get it apart. God knows what kind of steel it's made of but it's not kind to the tools.

I might have found a reason why some parts of the car makes so much resistance. It's surrounded by french cars! Just look how close this Peugeot 305 is!
![]() And, just a few feet away, a Peugeot 605 SV24! ![]() Or might it be the Volvo 360 GL that have a bad influence on the old soviet fighter? ![]() Or the Honda Accord Aerodeck? It's flat black after all. ![]() It can't be the chinese scooter, since it's so harmless overall that it makes low-fat milk look sinful. ![]() ( Yes, i know, i have too much junk standing around. )

Hmm, quick question, should i drop in the old dashboard (modified with aluminium sheetmetal) or should i keep the gauges suspended i small brackets? The dashboard just sits on with four bolts so it's no big deal dropping it back in.

Awesome project, and personally I would keep the old dashboard to retain as much of the personality of the original car as possible.

Took a date with some aluminium, a tin snipper and a few drills today, spent about an hour of hard, sweaty work (it's bloody hot here) and i have a new dashboard! I even have a crappy cell phone pic to prove it!
![]() From left to right: Temp gauge (Original Vaz), Oil Pressure gauge (Original Vaz), Oil pressure warning light (Brakelight from a horse trailer) and Tachometer with shiftlight (bought on 30% sale at a autoshop). Still doing things as cheap as i can.
