    Using Subtitles (.srt files)

If you want to watch a subtitled video (i.e. an ".avi" with an accompanying ".srt" file), I recommend just using Media Player Classic. Infact I watch all my videos with that player. Incredibly powerful, but a simple interface.

You can download the latest/best version of MPC here: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

Just extract it to a folder and then double-click the EXE -- no installing required. Once the video is playing, right-click anywhere on the video, select "Subtitles", and then "Enable".

There is no replacement for displacement.

... I ask Herb Helbig, vehicle synthesis manager for SRT and a member of the original Team Viper development group since day one, if they'd ever thought of adding traction control. "It comes with two," he says, pointing at my feet. "Learn to use them." Got it.

MPC HC isn't the best version imo, i've compared animated and no animated video, it lacks in several areas.

Regular MPC works just as fine

Hey Viper, I tried that. I launched the player, opened the Russian TP, but when I right click, subtitles is greyed out. The SRT file is in the same dir as the avi. All files have the original (same) names.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

    Options. Note the subtitles choice.

    Hi Tech -

I read your text and thought you meant go into the subtitles options, but that's just for the style. Your picture shows output options which doesn't have any affect on subtitles.

I did check and made sure the playback options are set to auto load subs, but it still won't show them.

I also tried with Divx player. The subs show up there, but the video is running like 5x speed.

I kind of have the opposite problem. I get the subtitles whether I want them or not. Using MPC, I still get subtitles even though I have the subtitles disabled. If I enable them, I get two different sets of subtitles with slightly different fonts and locations. When I try to play it through my Phillips DVD Divx player, the subtitles are there, and so large that some of them are cut off. I can't disable them or change the font.

Ok. I've been using subtitles in MPC for years. So, here is what you need to do:
    1) In the options screenshot above (with Output page selected) in zone named "DirectShow Video" you should choose something with ** (VMR7 or VMR9) because, as you can see in the bottom of the same page, there is written "** Required for loading subtitles". And they mean it. Why is this not default option... I leave this question open for MPC creators.
    2) Subtitle file name should be the same as name of the video file you are planning to watch (of course file extension will be different). Otherwise you have to specify subtitles file manually from MPC menu.
    3) If you have duplicated subtitles then it means that you probably have "K-lite codecs pack" which comes with "Direct VOB sub". Direct VOB sub is automatically adding subtitles to any video in any player if it finds corresponding subtitle file (with the same name as video). Direct vob sub tray icon should appear during video playback and after clicking on it you should see some options, where most interesting option is "Hide subtitles". Another option is to disable subtitles in MPC.

I like how there is not even a page of responses. I saw a quick clip on you tube, certainly not worth the download IMO.

Hello people. Try "KMPlayer", it's great for playback all file formats. I personaly use this for everything, even for music, DVD and HDTV. It has no problem at all with subtitles, even if they are with bad timing, you can adjust it with two buttons in a second. Sorry, for my bad english

    Greetings from Bulgaria

What they lack in originality they make up for with a bit of gruff, what they lack in sophistication they make up for with mind blowing gorgeous women. I don't really get the dynamic of the humour but again in case anyone missed it... well damn russia has some fine women. I mean yes the original UK version does have humour going for it and it is brilliantly put together but end of the day wow like do all russia women look like that?

    (85) 911 vs Range Rover(diesel) vs MX5(current gen) host cars around the track results as per order I listed in.

Boxter versus boat wasn't all that bad but it lacked integrity.

News ... well.... Porsche panerama which to me just didn't need to be made and joins a great family of bad choices for Porsche model names, just go back to the numbers already. Get Insured could work well and I do get the humour on that one, gadgets might work out but so far it fell flat.

(The Porsche WideAngle Porsche Basil, Porsche Bermuda, jebus audi's names make more sense, vw'd have more cred, Porsche I'm on my hands and knees stop naming your cars and just go with the numbers. Hell while your at it stop making the SUV and dump the 4 door 911 before you make it.)

Stars is a reasonably priced car... well once again I'm convinced that Montreal and Russia are related, stunning gorgeous women and odd looking guys. The car just isn't legit it doesn't sound right its obviously setup for the track and it misses the mark.

VLC Player opens it with subtitles.
