This is common with 4-barrel carburetors, perhaps that's what he meant?

hmm, I didn't know that most cars were governed by electronics, I'm still thinking the pedal is connected to the engine, where pushing it down means more fuel, which means go faster

I must admit that in my car the pedal feel is very gradual, up to about 90%, after that it's the same as going flatout...

from the moment you have cruise control, ESP and/or traction control, it will most likely be throttle-by-wire

No, see upthread - he's got a dual butterfly throttlebody for EFI.

Not so. Cruise control is traditionally accomplished by either a bellows or a servo pulling a cable connected to the throttle body. ESP/traction control is usually accomplished (until the last couple of years, and even still to this day on non-luxury models) by engagement of the ABS, pulling timing back on or cutting out the ignition entirely, or by pulling/cutting fuel injected to the engine.

None of these flat out require throttle-by-wire. My XJR has all the above and the throttle is still manual. (For which I am grateful, as the early TBW units were in fact crap - my 92 E32 was a perfect example of that.)

Diesels do not have throttle bodies anyway. Diesels run by controlling the amount of fuel going to the cylinders, not by controlling the amount of air.
