| Disclaimer first. I am NOT in any way buy a Bentley as of currently. The buyer is my uncle, a china chinese, who (probably) has no knowledge/interest in cars, but he's interested in getting one down here, in Singapore. For verification purposes for those who'd like to flame or accuse me of being a liar, here's a googled link of a news report about his company. http://www.germany.info/relaunch/inf.../economy1.html Thank you. ![]() Anyway, here's the story. My uncle(father's cousin), is investing in singapore and wants a luxury mobile, so he's thinking about a Bentley. He and my father went to look at a 5 month old 2nd hand Bentley yesterday, of which I wasn't allowed to go ![]() 2000km. Registered on July 2007 20" optional rims SGD$628,000 (Pictures taken off dealer's website) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My question is, how reliable are Bentleys? Should we consider a 2nd hand 2003 Maybach 62?( has been floating around in the market unsold for half a year) Or Any other cars of this sort? BTW, this uncle of mine has 2 Bentleys and a Rolls Royce! In hong kong and beijing. He has a Merc S350 at home in China. EDIT: the car would not be driven much, since he only visits once every month for 2 or 3 days. Last edited by Homer_Bart; December 20th, 2007 at 04:07 AM.. | |

| I'm not Moe | None of those ultra luxury cars are going to be really reliable. Just get whichever one he likes, he'll probably be able to afford the maintenance costs. |

| Update! Just got a call, I'm now asked to accompany to go to see more Bentleys!!! | |

| D: | Asking on this forum won't get you any real responses of any use, unless you want a repeat of clarkson and co's coments.

Rep Power: 15 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If he already owns two other bentleys and a rolls royce, he should know how reliable they are.

| Nerdcore | The Conti GT / Flying Spur is essentially a VW Phaeton, and as such, should be reliable. The W12 engine in it has been used in a number of VAG luxury products. And I'm a huge fan of the GT / Flying Spur. I know a lot of people don't like them, but I quite like the GT.

| .sa = bad driver! | I haven't been in a Flying Spur, but I've ridden in a Maybach 57 and a Continental GT, and the Maybach was a nicer place to be. No idea about reliability, though.

Car: Whatever's in the press fleet. Rep Power: 27 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | First: Why are you asking about Bentley reliability on an internet forum dedicated to a car show? Second: Do you really think a (distant) relative in the market for such a car, having already owned such cars, is going to be interested in the opinion of his hardly-related 14-year-old nephew? Not trying to be a prick, but you're making it really easy.

| I agree - Most of us are not rich enough to afford such luxury cars, or just won't admit it.

| Ignorance at its best!! The Chinese are not only living in China. Ever looked outside? ![]() It is a big issue between Singapore and Malaysia, the majority is Chinese and the minority is Malay in Singapore, whereas it is the other way around in Malaysia. The majorities in both countries watch above the minorities in the other country. I think that might be the reason he mentioned that. Big issue, but I guess it didnt make the US headlines. ![]()

| Banned | hold on..... wouldn't your father's cousin be your second cousin and not an uncle? for him to be an uncle, he would had to of been a sibling of your father's. a cousin isn't a sibling, its a relative. |

I mean the Bentley is a nice car and all but theirs 10s of other cars that pop to mind as something i would spend my cashflow on. Good to hear hes actually test driving the cars though Reliability should be okay since its basically a pheaton, older bentleys i'm not so sure. |

| @ klutch: I only come to finalgear forums, nowhere else, that's why I post here. He may be distant, but our families are close, like best friends. @hajj: LOL, got a point. chinese/asians are now everywhere in the world. so I thought I gotta make a point to mention that =/ @elmo187: over in singapore, you call all males uncle when you greet people (i.e. neighbor/father's friend etc), auntie for the females. So it's totally appropriate to call him uncle (: The only thing he cares about is the car's prestige and price. He wants these two factors at the max. Pictures of the trip at the Random Car Sightings thread. Sorry, I'm a noob at forums. Guess I'll not post next time, looking at the negative comments... | |
