Default Clutch replacement on BMW 325

Does anyone here know about how much it costs to replace the clutch on a 1993 BMW 325?

I'm looking at one of these BMWs as a fun weekend car, to take to the track or something. My friend (major gearhead) is finally selling his after owning it for 10 years, so I know everything is perfect on the car, except the clutch needs replacement. Hes also willing to give me a great deal on it, but I don't want to go for it if replacing the clutch will cost more than the car.

Call a local repair shop that specializes in BMW for a quote.

On the other hand you could do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined, have the right tools and the time. I looked up a replacement clutch on a national discount auto parts supplier's website, the clutch itself is $230.

I'd love to do it myself, but I have neither the tools nor the time. I could always get the right tools... but I can't buy more time.

If your not going to do it yourself, it will probably cost a fair bit as it's RWD car so ethier the engine or g-box wil have to be moved or pulled out. It's probably at least 1/2days work if not a full day depending on the mechanic.

Probably quiet an easy job, just hire an engine crane, get a manual and offer your mates a few beers to help you. It's a pretty straight forward job.

If you've got a free Saturday and one of two buddies you should be able to pull it off yourself. No need to mess with pulling the engine up; get the car up on jackstands, pull the driveshaft, disconnect any linkage and unbolt the transmission. Just make sure you've got someone holding onto the transmission! images/smilies/lol.gif

Yep, no need to pay someone an arm and a leg to do it.

It's not a hard job to do.

RWD gearbox is usually very easy to remove.

Just remember to buy/rent clutch centering kit.
Not necessary (i use my eyes to center clutches images/smilies/mrgreen.gif), but i recommend that.

As stated before with the right tools it can be done in 3 hours. Much easier than on a FWD car and the gearbox is really easily accessible, you may have to remove the exhaust which takes about 5 minutes images/smilies/wink.gif
