Car: '78 Ford, '74 Yamaha, '74 Honda Rep Power: 26 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My google skills have been failing me guys. I recently got my hands on a 1978 Ford Fairmont, a sedan based on the Ford Fox-Body platform. I'm definitely not a Ford guy and I'm just looking for any information I can get on Fox-Bodies really, especially the '78-'93 platform. What cars came with an 8.8in, limited slip rear end, preferably with disc brakes? What would it take to put a 5 speed manual trans in this car? Stuff like that. If any of you guys can help me out, I'd appreciate it. |

Car: 1973 GMC Sprint, Buick 455, TH400 Rep Power: 13 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm not a Ford guy, so I can't answer the question, but you might try some Mustang sites since you're looking for Fox-bod stuff. If nobody chimes in by tomorrow I'll pose the question on another forum and see if they know. |

Car: 1984 Ford Mustang SVO • 1991 Ford Ranger XLT Rep Power: 12 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | SVOs never came with an 8.8", it was a 7.5". What you want is a rear end from a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe or I believe a Lincoln Versailles. To convert to a five speed, you would need a clutch pedal assembly (which will be a pain to install), the clutch cable, a flywheel, clutch, trans, etc. But this all depends on what engine you have/installed. I used to have an '81 Fairmont wagon with a 351W, so if you have any more question I should be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. As for good Mustang sites, try: www.corral.net www.allfordmustangs.com www.stangnet.com And a local site that I frequent: www.100mphclub.com

My Fairmont has a 302 and a C4, and I'd like to swap it for a later 5 speed manual, but that won't happen until this summer when I can park it and ride the Yamaha. And if any of you want to learn everything about the Fox Mustang's chassis, here you go ... http://www.bentleypublishers.com/gal...&galleryId=163 |

Car: Whatever's in the press fleet. Rep Power: 27 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Dude, the Fairmont/Futura are awesome cars to play with. Its essentially a Mustang underneath, so nearly everything swaps over with ease. My friend just picked up a nicely restored one, and we'll be dropping in a stroker over the summer. There's a bunch of vids on Google of Fairmonts with 500 plus horsepower - they're the ultimate sleeper. I know I've gone completely ot here and offered no useful info, but I'll try to keep you posted with the build, just too tired to grab all the info now.
