| Isn't the fuel filler on the opposite side as the exhaust? That makes more sense than an economic or RHD/LHD reason. Safety > worries of congestion in a gas station. | |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | All cars built today have Fuel indicators. Now not all of them will have an arrow pointing to what side, its all in the little picture of the Gas pump symbol. If you look at the gas pump symbol, look at if the handle is on the pump or off the pump. If it is on the pump, the gas cap is on the left of the car, if the off the pump the gas cap is on the right of the car. |

| D: | Interestingly enough the integra has it's fuel filler on the left and the commodore had it on the right both RHD designed cars.

![]() And the filler is on the right rear quarterpanel. (The single exhaust is on the left side of the car, even though the entire exhaust tract is on the right side of the car, it switches sides just after the rear axle) | ||

| the pump icon has meaning? So if I'm getting this right this means if you have the pump icon in your car and the nozzle thingie is on the left that means your fuel filler cap is on the left? that's actually not a bad idea... Never thought of it that way. so by that logic this => ![]() would mean the filler cap is on the right? I'm asking because I have never seen an icon where it's on the other side | |

| Gulf Livery Rules | No, it means it's on the left of the car. If it was on the right, you'd have to drag the pump across the car.EDIT: I've never noticed this until i checked, but my dash has the fuel pump with the nozzle on the right, and an arrow pointing left, which makes sense. Although, Adu's dash has the pump with the nozzle on the right side too, but his fuel door is on the right. Guess there really aren't any rules. ![]() |

Despite the vast numbers of idiots with driver's licenses in the US, gas stations are oddly enough one of the least likely places to see an accident. I've never even heard of a head-on accident in one, other than someone trying to pull forward and bumping into the car in front of them. Most of the time there's an incident, it's some idiot just driving off with the hose still attached to the car. I have no idea how you'd manage *that*, but people still do it. Quote:
![]() And yes, the majority of people that drive off with the hose still in the car, both from personal experience when I was working at a gas station as a kid and from talking to attendants, are women.

| Gulf Livery Rules | This is what a normal local pump looks like. Runs parallel to the road, and is one way. You pump before paying and they're all self service. This one's on a highway, so there's another one on the opposide side. ![]() |

Here are some more typical American ones: Some smaller ones: ![]() A larger one: ![]() ![]() People just don't have difficulty navigating these designs (unless someone screws up and put the pumps too close to the building, etc., etc); I find it amazing that some Europeans would. Hm, here's an "American style" one from somewhere in Europe: ![]()

| All the gas stations I've ever been to have been the "American" kind where you can pump from either side. I still don't get how you can crash into each other that way... ![]() | |
