Default [Question]Any downsides to a pearl effect paint?

Metallic or Pearl? I can't decide.
No doubt, to me, Pearl paint is a looker. but any disadvantage images/smilies/thumbdown.gif having a car with pearl paint?

Well what car is it? I'm not too familiar with pearl paints...mind posting images of them. Either way, I've always loved a good, deep metallic paint job.

well you just really have to take care of the pearl paint, say if you scrape your bumper pretty bad and want to respray just the bumper, then too bad... you have to do the whole car or the bumper will look odd...

pearl effect would also look bad on a passat. if you are getting metallic, go with the color VW calls "united gray".

Well, yes!
Pearl will tell everyone how much of a idiot you are. So go with metallic.

Unless you are a "guido", then you should get the pearl. images/smilies/biggrin.gif

images/smilies/unsure.gif Metallic and Pearl both cost £335.

but anyway, I am getting metallic and prefer arctic blue silver or shadow blue images/smilies/lol.gif. I guess "united gray" is for USA only?

metallic paint: isn't that a bit thicker then other paints? More resistant and so?

VW UK calls it "steel gray" or something.

Pearl paints are VERY hard to match perfectly if you get in an accident, metallics are also prety tough to duplicate precisely. This gets even harder (for both) with age. I have a 92 Audi with a white pearl paint. It had one fender resprayed about 12 years into it's life and it is WAY off color.

See here (compare the fender to the door):
