My girlfriend needs some tires badly. The rears are bald. I could use some suggestions from you guys as to what is an affordable, safe tire. With the Texas winter coming I'm thinking all seasons should be ok since our winters are usually mild. Performance isn't necessity as long as it keeps the car on the road properly. Size is 205/50/R17.
Thanks. EDIT: Car is an 06 Chevy Cobalt Last edited by airmenair; November 7th, 2009 at 9:53 PM. |

How cold is it where you live? If it usually stays above 7°C and there is no major snowfall then just buy summer tires.

I've had less problems with Goodyear than I have had with Firestone. Then again, I run BFGs on my two cars, so that's a moot point.

i drove in summer and now in winter (almost) with some Birdgestone Blizzaks and were not so brilliant when hot but are brilliant when the tarmac is cold. I've heard that all season are just a myth. Oh and if you are planning to get winter tyres get them with that snowflake in a mounation logo, the internet say they have some extra tests done to them. Anyway wichever type/make you buy, look for the manufacturing date, no more than a few months old.
I recommend Bridgestone Blizzak Last edited by emil_t; November 7th, 2009 at 9:26 PM. |

Just get a set of standard all seasons, for a cobalt in texas you arn't gonna see much if any snow. Go to tirerack.com they have free shipping and their prices are the cheapest I have seen.

Just get some performance all-season ones, possibly even summer only. Doubt you see much snow down there Texas.

Get a set of mid range BFgoodwrench all seasons off Tire rack and then take them to a local school w/auto shop to install them You honestly save about $100 a tire.

Yokohama Avid TRZ's are a great tire for the money; if properly rotated, they should last 70,000 miles.
