Rep Power: 0 ![]() | 1997 Lincoln Town Car Cartier When I start, the speedo gives random numbers (digital dash), usually up in the 120 mph range Once I start rolling, it behaves normally and doesn't act up again until the next time I start it. I'm getting 13.3-13.9 volts at the cigarette lighter with the car running, no significant drop under load. Hayne's specs 14-15 volts, so I had my charging system checked but the shop said it's a-ok. Any other things I should look into, or should I just replace the alternator? (150 dollar part, I can do it myself in an afternoon) |

| maybe that's just a little calibration thing that it does at each start up. i used to own a pontiac grand prix which whips the speedo and tach needles to the max position each time i start it up. | |

Car: MY07 G11 WRX-TR WRB. Rep Power: 86 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I am thinking that it is also calibrating. Have a friend drive in a seperate car. Get on the interstate and have the person maintain a speed of 55 mph. Then have them maintain a speed of 65 mph. Get off the interstate and have them maintain a speed of 45, 35, and 25 mph. If you are within 2 mph of any of those speeds, youre fine. Changing out an alternator will not change how the speedometer reads. Fuck Haynes, if it is maintaining a charge over 12.7 volts, youre fine.

Rep Power: 0 ![]() | Thanks for the replies. It isn't normal - just started a few nights ago and it actually adds miles to the odometer. I'll just be careful not to start until I'm ready to move. |
