Ownership Verified: Polishing a turd. 1973 GMC Sprint, with a side of XJ

Today was Work-on-the-Jeep Day. I did actually get the steering wheel back on the Sprint last night. I even went for a little drive. It needs tuning, but that will have to wait until next weekend. Two main jobs on the Jeep today. Three if you count changing the gear oil in both axles. Job #1...

    Toyota Supra 2019

I'd take the Z4 over this any day, even with the significant price premium for the 6-cylinder version. I saw a Z4 last week and it actually looks good, unlike this monstrosity.

Very small update today. I pulled the steering wheel off about 2 months ago to give it a good cleaning. The plasticizer seeping out of the '70s GM rubbery plastic creates a nasty syrup-like goo that makes the steering wheel sticky and disgusting to touch, and stains clothes. I used to keep a...

The "Things that annoy me" thread

Medical insurance companies making me sign a letter of medical necessity so a patient can get a medication or diabetic testing supplies. If it wasn't medically necessary I wouldn't have prescribed the fucking medication in the first fucking place.

There are two of us, at least.

Temps today were below 90 so I got off my butt and got the brakes done. Out with the old. It still worked, but for how much longer? I'm pretty sure it is the original master cylinder, which would make it about 46 years old. This looks like crap but it still works, so it stays. If it dies, at...

Ownership Verified: Polishing a turd. 1973 GMC Sprint, with a side of XJ

I was indeed lazy yesterday and didn't get anything done, but today I got the rear brakes back together with new wheel cylinders. I haven't cared too much about making the old parts look pretty. Goal #1 is simply to get it driving (safely). Anything beyond that will involve body work, and if I...

I was able to make a little more progress today. I had a minor medical procedure last week that prevented any work for a few days (no worries, nothing big at all), and I've become a wimp when it comes to working in temperatures over 100F. Temperatures dropped a few degrees and I got home from...

    LS3 Hot start issue

Get a mechanic's stethoscope and see if you tell exactly where on the engine the noise is coming from. That will greatly narrow down what it is. There are many things it could be, but probably not a bad bearing; that should make noise whether the engine is hot or cold. Could be a lifter going...

I didn't get much done on Tuesday as I'd hoped; I decided to wait for a pressure washer to be delivered and give things a good spray-down before doing much more. But, there was some slight progress yesterday. New parts! There are a few odds and ends missing from the picture, but it's boring...

Minor progress has been made! First though, some of the bad stuff about the car: Rust! This area is definitely the worst cancer on the car. As far as I can tell everything else is surface rust, but who really knows. I didn't help this by starting some body work a few years ago, but the rust...

It's kind of an oddball. I've had parts store guys tell me it didn't exist. I just referred them to "exhibit A" in the parking lot (and for some funny reason it showed up in their computer). I don't know if it'll ever be "complete." At this point I just want to drive it.

I really haven't made any progress on this pile in several months (has it been almost a year?!), mostly because I've been working on a Jeep--it might get it's own thread soon. But that's soon to change. For most of the past 10 years it's been sitting at my parents' house, but I finally got it...

    2020 McLaren GT

The front and back look good, but you don't notice it because your eye just goes straight to that absurdly massive side intake. It's all I can see.

I hope they still do some car history segments. I thought those were brilliant this last season.

    The Gun thread

The price of magazines compared to most other brands. $35 for a plastic 10-rd rimfire magazine is a little ridiculous. Other than that, my 455 is one of my favorite guns to shoot.

Very cool. I need to get working on my old POS. I'm only about an hour further from your car than you are.
