Don't forget to call more rural dealers as they may just want to get rid of them due to lack of interest from the customers they don't have.

Consider checking around with local dealers to see if they have any new takeoffs. Around here, you can often pick up an entire set of new or at worst <100 mile takeoffs for $100. My 4Runner is rolling around on some takeoffs from a brand new Tacoma that I got for cheeeeeeeeeap at a dealer a...

It's also garbage. BMW will point you at an X2 or X3 if you want a 3 series wagon.

About nobody makes/imports wagons to the US because for the past decade every time they do, about nobody buys them - despite all the gearhead claims that they will. Manuals being on the way out in the market as well, I'm not sure you're going to find a good candidate that meets all three...

Thanks for reminding me - some states and even localities have laws about that as well. Example - New York: https://www.agriculture.ny.gov/AI/small_animals/minimum_space_require_for_dogs.pdf I believe that while California has no laws about it that I know of, LA County (where @EyeMWing...

Get one that's slightly larger, then. You can try SAE on metric and vice versa.

You can often use a hex/Allen key or socket bit of the appropriate size (sometimes hammered in) to get a stripped Torx bolt out. Who was suggesting the screwdriver as the first resort? That's pretty lame.

Depends on what and when - I've got a work situation that's nebulous but developing.

    LS3 Hot start issue

You may have to have the injectors cleaned of existing residue then reinstall them with insulation to get results, FYI.

These are a thing: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Brake-Pedal-Extender-Cars/dp/B0198VE4YO Dead pedal extenders are usually pretty easy for someone to fab up, too. And they're mostly dead now so it's kind of irrelevant at this point in time. :P

Yeah, if it was even possible in that decade, often reprogramming required desoldering and resoldering chips to begin. Or swapping socketed chips on boards. And bit by bit binary editing, come to think of it. Not many people were able to do that sort of stuff in their garages back then. :D

    Random Thoughts... [Automotive Edition]

Keep in mind that back in the era of the New Beetle (90s) more than a couple automatics, regardless of maker, were still more hydromechanical than electronic controls. "Reprogramming" a hydromechanical trans involves these things: For those that were fully electronic control, the foreign...

APR makes an engine tune (because the engine is shared with the Golf/Jetta) for the original New Beetle, but no trans tune or pretty much anything else significant. They don't even offer a short shifter kit for manual New Beetles, even though they do for the contemporary Golf - kinda tells you...

    LS3 Hot start issue

You can get some heat shield tubing to go over each injector but you generally have to take the injectors and rail off to fit it. Yes, they do sit in the intake manifold (isn't the one on the LS3 plastic?) but what you want to do is keep the heat from getting to the injectors from any angle but...

There used to be a New Beetle enthusiast scene - but like the cars themselves, it died an early death. :P

    LS3 Hot start issue

I'm wondering if you're having heat soak issues with the injectors. That wasn't an uncommon cause of vapor lock and knocking on a hot start with 80s fuel injection and it continues to show up as a cause every so often even these days. Could you possibly insulate your injectors (after...

Because (among other reasons) while racing you rarely have to go from neutral to first the speed disadvantage that the GP layout confers on that action (stomping down is faster than tilting your foot up) is actually a safety issue on the street where you may have to quickly accelerate away from...

A rudimentary form of paddleshift appeared in 1901 with the first street car fitting this early paddleshift being IIRC 1912; the first paddleshift system that looked like the modern systems we use today appeared in Ferrari racers in the 1980s. Thing is, from 1901 to today, there's still no...
