It's 1:00 in the AM, and I'm extremely bored, so I think I'll just winky dinky put a post together which I think could turn out to be quite interesting.

Which of the big three built your favorite, and what is your favorite one? For me the answer was simple.

1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda..

EDIT YAY! my 100th post on the final gear forums!

Mopar Man, what the hell is it with you and polls? Nearly every topic you start has to have a poll attached to it.

COBRA FTW 8)

Why is the thread titled "what is the best" and the poll titled "who made the best muscle cars?"

BTW, Pontiac Super Duties owns your life! :p

GM takes the win as they are the ones who officially created the muscle car.

Gentlemen, I present the Shelby Cobra Super Sport - or as I like to call it The Baby Eater - Price tag: $5.5 Million USD.

Debate over. Next!

I would say that a muscle car that the average person at least has some hope of owning beats that astronomically priced monstrosity.

I tend to like the Chrysler muscle cars even though GM probably made the better ones. Me likes the 'Cuda and the '70 is probably the best looking one.

Survey the magnificence (and the kick-butt paint schemes): I about wet myself when I saw these at a car show.

The question was about "the best" not "the best reasonably priced car." And I would hardly call the Super Snake a "monstrosity" I think it looks brilliant and just thinking about having all that power under the hood is enough to set your hair on fire.

Super Snake

Super Snake

+1 Blind_Io twin supercharged 427CI 800hp, destroys ANY other muscle car any one can think of. The car was featured in the march 2007 issue of octane magazine and Carroll Shelby  was quoted as saying "if we hadn't quit building the Cobras, i would have wound up with a 1500 horsepower Cobra. I've got Cobra engines now of 1600 and 1700 horsepower. I'm putting some of these into cars, and some of them i'm not". The reason why Carroll Shelby and Shelby Cobras are legends.

Just for sheer ridiculousness

The Superbird/Daytona aren't ridiculous at all. They kicked butt and took names in NASCAR back when it actually meant something (the cars were really what the names said, not just rollcages with a generic sheet metal body with Ford Fusion painted on).

I'm still sticking to my guns on the Cobra thing. I should have pointed out earlier that I consider it a sports car, not a muscle car. Plus a cool car isn't very fun if you never get to see one in person. If I had the money I could buy a Barracuda right now. They are out there readily available for sale. Can you say the same for your Cobra? :p

You've all got it wrong, I'm afraid. The best muscle car cannot come from America, as they're all inept at car-making. What you're actually thinking of, is the Marcos TSO GT. They've used the only decent bit out of the American muscle car, the engine which is a 5.7-litre V8.

Well when I was hanging out with Mario Andretti up at his vineyard in Napa someone showed up with an original Cobra (not the Super Snake, because there is only one left of the two that were built). This one was built by the pit boss for the race team as his personal car. He shifted the engine back about 5 inches to change the center of balance and give the car better grip and handling. It was completely hand built by the Cobra race team and is one-of-a-kind.

Oh, it made such a glorious noise!

*sigh* Fine - here's me before I ran some of the blubber off - oh, and that's Mario Andretti autographing a $50 bottle of wine from his vineyard for me (I'm a member of the wine club up there). My now Ex-girlfriend was the one with my camera. She had no idea what was going on so she caught me slouching with my hand half-way out of my pocket and looking like a moron.

Mario is a tiny little guy, I never really realized it until I met him in person, he comes up to just over my elbow.

Oh, here's the Cobra:

Notice how much space there is between the block and the radiator? That's because the engine was moved back like I mentioned in my earlier post. There were also two classic Camaros, a couple Ferraris, a Ford GT, and a Jaguar E-Type V12 parked around the lot that day.

Sorry the reply was not more immediate, I had to find the USB cable for my camera. I tried to read the memory card in my card reader but every time I tried Windows Explorer crashed on me.

Here you go, Viper, this is to eat your words:

Now repeat after me, "I will never doubt Blind_Io again. I will be careful about calling Bullshit in the future" Go on, you try now.
