I'm currently house minding someone's house for them and was wondering if it is possible to set-up my ADSL at their place while I am there?
The ADSL would still need to work at my own house as well.

Not possible - an ADSL account / connection is tied to the one phone line.

Well, no, it's technically possible, your DSL provider just won't do it

Our old provider lets you 'roam' with your ADSL account, you could connect from anyones phone line using your own user/password.

^ How did that work? Surely the phone line needed to have ADSL activated on it in the first place?

Yeah Telstra said I could change address once for free and after that it would cost me about $50 each time I wanted to change.

Well, yes of course, they had ADSL with that provider as well, we just used our user/pass and it would work.

^ I see, well that makes complete sense - I thought there might have been some crazy set up over there where every line had ADSL activated by default.

Actually, while some Aussies are looking at this thread... I'm currently researching some ADSL2+ plans for my new place, just wondering which carrier you're with and how you find service/speeds etc?
Thanks in advance! |

decent usage (20gb on peak /20gb off peak - uploads not counted) speeds kind of suck due to me being 6km from the exchange and service is poor at best.

Internode
$59/month for 25gb ADSL2+ Uploads not counted, no peak/offpeak worries I can pull down 1.5-1.6 Megabytes/second on good high speed torrents That of course depends on how far you are from the exchange... For more info go to www.whirlpool.net.au <== Aust Broadband Forum

I'll also check out Internode. H_H, I checked out the Netspace stuff last night and you can only get their ADSL2+ with a phone plan, too. I only want to pay line rental to Telslut, nothing more for a phone. P.S. I'm a total noob at ADSL as Mum and Dad have cable here, is the phone line the only wall connection I need?? (Apart from the AC for the modem )

Yep, just the wall connection. You'll also need an ADSL filter for any non-ADSL devices (phones, faxes) connected to the line - you'll most likely get one (or two) of those with the modem though.

Really? Cause I was promising my self I'd finally get off the sinking Telstra ship and on board with TPG in the new year 12gb v 200gb for same money... Damn - how bad is bad? With the bandwidth issues and peak times etc? Time to see what the others are offering I guess |

Netspace do ADSL2+ only, it just costs $10 extra a month over the advertised prices, mines something like $60 a month for 20gb/20gb without netspace for phone
