Default How to adjust the volume of a single speaker?

Alright, im posting, basically, the same question I did about a week ago, but since that thread got no replies, this one will be simpler.

SO the question is, how do I increase/decrease the volume of an individual speaker in a 5.1 setup.

Im using logitech z-640, Windows XP and a Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1.

Ive tried looking in the windows sound settings, but I can only find controls for adjusting either "left" or "right" volume from there.

Thanks in advance

Did you install a sound panel software from Logitech? If so, it should have a volume control for the single speakers. If not, you should.

Thanks for replying. I would try that out, but I dont have any software cd's for these speakers, since they are stolen.

(Not really, I bought them off a friend) images/smilies/smile.gif

I tried looking through the logitech site, but couldnt find anything.. Do you have a link for such software?

Didn't find anything, but maybe this helps:

Go to the control panel of your Windows. Find "Sound", then "Audio" and click on "Advanced". Make sure the setup says 5.1 speakers, and not stereo. if you enable 5.1, you probably can adjust the volume of every single speaker.

Yeah, thats the problem, I can only adjust "left" or "right" from there, and my speaker setup is set at 5.1... Im downloading the latest soundblaster drivers right now, I'll tell you if they fix anything. Thanks

Oh yes, didn't think of the soundcard drivers. But you did install a previous version of the Soundblaster driver before, did you?

Yeah, I had some creative driver from like the 1960's? Installed the creative drivers, but even with them enabled, I can still only adjust the volume of "left" and "right".. From the creative driver program, I can adjust the center speaker volum aswell, but that doesn't relly help since I want to adjust the volume of a rear speaker individually..images/smilies/sad.gif

Do you know whether some logitech program would allow me to make the adjustment?

I don't think so. But the control panel of your soundcard, being a 5.1 model, should give you control over each individual channel.

Alright, with some additional digging, I found roughly, what I was looking for. Only, its a fade tool in which you move a ball to increase or decrease the sound emitted by the speakers.

This is what it looks like:

The only problem with this is , that when I increase the volume of my rear left speaker (which is what I want to do), I also decrease the volume of my front right speaker, which I dont want to do.. images/smilies/sad.gif

Any ideas?

Hmmm ... good point that. Well, if that's the only way to adjust volumes, I think you can't do anything. You could search the net, maybe anyone else had the same problem and solved it. Otherwise, contacing the Creative support might be an idea, but to be honest, I don't think they'll help your if you get and answer at all. Sorry! images/smilies/sad.gif

What really pisses me off is, that in the windows volume control place, You can clearly see, that they have reserved space for rear left/rear right/center volume sliders, but they are missing images/smilies/sad.gif Wonder if someone else at finalgear has any idea how to do this.. Thanks for trying

With my onboard realtek, I have the ability to crank up the DB on specific speakers.

Creative fails pretty hard with their drivers and sound customization.

Why do you actually need to turn up the volume of that speaker? Can't you move it a bit closer? You could always look for an in-line cheapy amp to boost it a bit.
