Car: Aston Martin DB9 (In GT4!) Rep Power: 17 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My computer refuses to recognize DVDs, it will however recognise CDs and VCDs, I've tried formatting but that only worked once and then it stopped working. Please Help Thanks in Advance Update: I've been through device manager and it seems that I have 2 drives, one CD and one DVD/CD, but I only I have once disc drive so it might work if I uninstall the CD drive but I'm not sure. There's also an error message for my APLZ2690 IDE Controller that says, but again I'm not sure if it's relevant. "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

| Do you have Nero installed? It likes to mess with your drives from time to time. My suggestion is to uninstall whatever DVD burning software you have on your computer and see what happens after that. | |

Rep Power: 17 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm not running vista, I don't have any DVD burning software installed and it won't let me set the region even though I have two more changes left. I also uninstalled the first CD-ROM drive and it did nothing, I might try uninstalling the second drive and seeing if windows autodetects the drivers. Will report back.

| Squirrel Mincer | If you've reinstalled windows then I would say it' a hardware error. |

| Delete both drives in device manager, get the latest driver for the drive | |

| Squirrel Mincer | Of course it's relevant if you have an IDE drive. If it's SATA then it's not. |

Also I've tried uninstalling both DVD drives and it does autodetect the drive but after that the problem remains. Also I tried to load defaults by going into BIOS but when I booted the computer the computer gibberish screen, it just skipped to the "windows is now loading" stage.

| Squirrel Mincer | Open it up and have a look. If it's IDE then it will have a big ribbon cable going to the motherboard and a 4 pin connector. If it's SATA, there will be a small cable going to the motherboard and a thin power connector with multiple 'pins'. Drivers not downloading is wierd in itself. Windows does also struggle sometimes without any burning software, get something free and see if that works. Is it a DVD burner or a ROM? You haven't told us that yet. |
